Lord’s announce £175 tickets for England Test with India – despite criticism of sky-high prices amid empty seats against Sri Lanka

  • The MCC came under fire this month over ticket prices against Sri Lanka
  • Only 9,000 fans turned up to watch the fourth day of the Test match
  • Prices were still up despite a review as England hosts India next summer

Lord’s has confirmed that prices for England’s men’s Test match against India next summer have been increased, despite criticism following this month’s match against Sri Lanka.

The third test match in a series of five matches will be held at this location from 10 to 15 July next year.

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which owns Lord’s, has confirmed ticket prices for the World Test Championship series and final.

Adult tickets without restricted vision cost between £120 and £175 for the first three days of the trial.

The cheapest adult tickets cost £90 and offer restricted viewing.

Thousands of empty seats were seen when England defeated Sri Lanka at Lord’s earlier this month

Tickets for children under 16 with full view cost between £40 and £50, while tickets for reduced view cost £20.

On the fourth day, prices start at £50 for a restricted view ticket, rising to £150 for the most expensive ticket. Tickets for children under 16 on the fourth day of the series cost £25.

The price increases come despite criticism of Lord’s over the cost of tickets for the recent Test match against Sri Lanka.

Only 9,000 people turned up to see England win a Test series against Sri Lanka earlier this month.

The first three days attracted capacity crowds of 31,000, but the fourth day of England’s 190-run victory was played to empty seats at Lord’s.

Adult tickets for the fourth day cost between £115 and £140, while under-16 and concessionary tickets cost between £15 and £40.

England’s stand-in captain Ollie Pope expressed disappointment with the turnout on the fourth day.

“It was kind of weird. A couple of us came in and it was like, ‘Jeez, it seems quiet,'” Pope said.

‘Too bad the room wasn’t full, because it was clearly a good day.’

Tickets for the fourth day against India have become cheaper after criticism

The MCC said it would review prices for Lord’s Tests after their second match of the summer failed to sell out over the first four days against the West Indies in July.

According to MCC director Guy Lavender, fans’ reluctance to attend on day four was partly due to the English Bazball style, where the game is played at a rapid pace.

The organization said the lower ticket prices on the fourth day, compared to the first three days, are a result of the evaluation.

The MCC has also confirmed that ticket prices for the World Test Championship final will range from £70 to £130 for adults, while tickets for under-16s will cost between £20 and £50.

Adult tickets are available for the One Day International between England Women’s team and India at Lord’s, with prices ranging from £25 to £45.
