Lord of the fries! Pubgoer discovers ‘biggest Wetherspoons chip in the world’ that dwarfs her burger and was the same size as her FORK
An adolescent claims she discovered the “biggest Wetherspoon chip in the world” that dwarfed her burger and was the size of her fork.
Sophie Turnock, 24, was initially disappointed when she was served a ‘paltry’ 15 chips at The Reginald Mitchell Wetherspoon in Hanley, Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire, on May 28 after a shopping trip.
However, the 24-year-old got more than she bargained for after finding what she says was “the world’s largest Wetherspoon chip” lurking in her cheese and bacon burger meal.
Ms Turnock, who was dining with partner Max Sugden, 27, and son Finn Turnock, six, at the time, claims the monster roast was almost the size of her fork – a whopping seven inches long.
The mother-of-two says the huge treat was buried under the other food – and was uncovered after Finn stole another chip from her plate.

Ms Turnock claims the fried delicacy was so big that the family broke it open to see if it was ‘fake’, thinking it impossible to find a potato that size.
The stay-at-home mom claims the generously sized boy made up for the fact that she only got a paltry 15 chips, as it was the size of ‘three chips in one’.
The Stoke-on-Trent resident said: ‘Crazy as it sounds, it was under all the other chips, so we didn’t see it at first.
“I took a bite out of the burger, and my son said, ‘Mommy can I have fries,'” and he took out the fries.
“Then we were like ‘woah – look at the size of that chip’.
“I was so stunned by it — I was like ‘what potato is this from?’
‘Honestly, the potato must have been as big as the fries. So how did they get such a big potato?
“I wondered at first if it was fake. I was thinking you can’t get a potato that big – I’ve never seen a potato that big.
My partner was also stunned. He thought the chip wasn’t real. We cracked open the chip to make sure it was.
‘I estimate an 18 cm [seven inch] chip, and I’m not exaggerating. You wouldn’t believe it if I didn’t take a picture of it next to the fork.
“We didn’t have a lot of chips, so this kind made up for it. It was like three chips in one.
“I actually think it’s the largest Wetherspoon chip in the world.”
She also claims that Finn was credited with chomping down the fork-sized surprise — shortly after the mom snapped some photos to share on social media.
Although Ms Turnock says finding the chip ‘made her day’, the stunned diner claims she should have contacted someone about the boy as it could have been a record holder.
The Wetherspoon enthusiast claims the family eats at the popular British chain often, and says she will be looking for more giant chips in the future.
The 24-year-old said: ‘My son ended up having the pleasure of eating it. He’s six and was like “can I please?” So in the end he got the chip. I couldn’t say no to him.
‘He enjoyed it. He said it tasted like a normal chip – just huge.
“It was just the most random thing. It made our day, we kept talking about it.
“I should have gotten in touch with someone – [it could have been in] the Guinness World Record Book for chips.
“I will be looking for more giant Wetherspoon chips in the future. We often go to Wetherspoons too.’

Her message reads, “15 chip count here, but that’s definitely made up for with this huge chip!”
Viewers were quick to share their thoughts in the comments, with many expressing the same surprise at the size of the massive side.
One said: ‘[Would] love to see the spud where it comes from.’
Another said, “Crikey, that’s a big one.”
A third commented, “Whopperooni.”
The news comes after a man named Harry Tayler claimed to have discovered a 13.4-inch chip on Wetherspoons at The Old Swanne Inne in Evesham, Worcestershire, in November 2021.
However, many social media users speculated that it was two fries stuck together.
