Denise underwent lens replacement surgery because she was tired of wearing and cleaning her glasses all the time.

She said she wouldn’t even be able to see the audience or the autocue if she weren’t wearing her trademark black-rimmed glasses.

The actress said: ‘I had lens replacement surgery. I’m tired of wearing glasses all the time and I’m tired of them being dirty. I can’t keep my glasses clean, so I’m really tired of it.’

She added: ‘I can honestly say it scares me a little bit because normally the audience is a blur from up here unless I put my glasses on. I can see the teleprompter.

“It’s unbelievable! I haven’t had the one that I can read with yet, so I still need glasses for that.”

Speaking about the procedure, she said: ‘It was incredible, the surgeon talked to me the whole time. It was a bit like being in a spaceship, he taught me all about it, but if you’re thinking about doing it, do it.’

Denise, who has been an active panellist on the show since 2005, recently claimed her role on Loose Women had a ‘double impact’ on her acting career due to her ‘quirky’ views.

In a recent interview on The song with Darren KennedyDenise said, ‘I think resilience is a good word for me, yeah. Yeah, I think so. I think it’s always been, as you get older in this business, it’s about staying relevant, you know.

‘And doing Loose Women has been amazing for me. Does it affect your acting career? Yes, it does. You know, when you become known as someone who is very opinionated.’

She added: ‘And also because of Loose Women, my parties and everything were in front of a big audience and what is it. So it had a knock-on effect on my acting career.

“But on the other hand, it’s also given me other opportunities that my acting career wouldn’t have given me. You know, forays into reality TV, some bad, some good.”

Denise gave a sneak peek at her new look on Tuesday’s episode of Loose Women, after the panel joked during the commercial break that she was ‘going to undergo a transformation’.

Together with its presenters Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan and Brenda Edwards, they discussed the experiences of women with thinning hair.

Ruth explained that she gets hair extensions to make her hair thicker and often wondered if she shouldn’t leave it long.

Denise shared her thoughts and said that she thought older women didn’t like long hair, which prompted her to make a transformation herself.

As promised, she returned to the studio after the break wearing a long blonde wig, much to the hilarity of her fellow actors.
