‘Loophole’ that could see Biden booted out the election race if he refuses to go

Democrats are discussing a potential “loophole” that could be used to force Biden out of the presidential race if he refuses to withdraw.

Delegates at the Democratic National Convention are playing with the options they have if Biden has not stepped aside or withdrawn from the race entirely by the time the party convention takes place in August.

Politicians are considering a ‘conscience-free loophole’ that would allow them to vote for a new candidate.

DNC delegate and political scientist Elaine Kamarck spoke to other delegates via a Zoom call Friday morning.

She informed them of the “loophole” that would allow them to drop Biden if they did not have a “good conscience” about their promised choice, determined by primaries and caucuses.

Kamarck, a decades-long member of the DNC Rules Committee, told the 50 delegates: “There’s no such thing as Joe Biden releasing his delegates. And Joe Biden gets this.”

She said, “I don’t know why the rest of the press doesn’t get it,” the mail.

According to Kamarck, the previous rules required deputies to vote for the person to whom they had taken their oath.

After the 1980 party convention battle between Ted Kennedy and then-president Jimmy Carter, the rules changed and the Democrats can now rebel at any time.

According to Kamarck, part of the rules is that elected representatives must reflect the views of those who elected them, so they could change the rules if Biden no longer represented the people’s choice.

“Look, we’ve never had a situation like this, where the primaries were over. A clear winner. And yet something was discovered, whatever you want to call it, after the primaries were over, which made people seriously doubt whether their candidate should continue,” Kamarck said.

Kamarck is part of a new group, Delegates Are Democracy, and led the call for delegates on behalf of the group on Friday.

The “loophole” discussions come as more prominent Democrats are calling on Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.

Calls for President Joe Biden to resign have grown so close to his inner circle that some in the White House know he “cannot” run for office in 2024 and want to give him the “grace” to step down, leading Democrats say.

Key figures in the 81-year-old’s presidential party want a new candidate on the ballot to avoid an election bloodbath against Donald Trump in November 2024.

More than 30 Democrats have called on him to step aside, making astonishing claims about his cognitive decline.

Insiders say the West Wing is under enormous pressure to find a solution and there is now division over whether Biden will quit.

“Most of them know. Some of them will say, Oh, calm down. But most of them will say, Oh, he can’t do it, just give him grace,” said Johanna Maska, former White House press secretary under Barack Obama.

“It’s very divisive. It must be difficult for everyone right now,” she told DailyMail.com.

On a day when 11 House Democrats called for Biden to step down, she pointed to a longtime aide who urged them to “just give him the space to make his own decision instead of everyone just coming out like this.”

It is not clear which delegates would be switched to Biden if they were to remove him from the list.
