The royal family first met Prince Felipe in 2002 – at the site of an oil spill in northern Spain.

Her first husband Alonso Guerrero Pérez, a writer and literature teacher, was nine years her senior. They dated for ten years before getting married in 1998, but divorced just a year later.

By the time she met her husband-to-be, Felipe, in 2002, Letizia was working for the popular TV channel 24 Horas where, in addition to anchoring the popular Telediario 2 evening news bulletin, she reported on a wide variety of breaking news events – including the 2000 US presidential election and the 9/11 attacks.

She was only allowed to marry Felipe in the Catholic Church in 2004, because she had previously had a civil ceremony with ex-husband Alonso.

Meanwhile, King Felipe, who recently took Twitter by storm with his perfectly tailored suit at the Wimbledon Men’s Final as he watched Carlos Alcaraz storm to victory, was on fine form in another smart fit.

The couple, who are on summer vacation with their daughters, took a break from family time to host a dinner at the palace for local authorities.

When the royal couple hosted the dinner, they were given the honor of hosting the European Champions League Cup futsal.
