Longtime NBA coach and player Joe Wolf ‘unexpectedly’ passes away at 59

The Milwaukee Bucks have announced the death of former NBA assistant coach and player Joe Wolf at the age of 59.

Wolf had been an assistant coach for the Bucks’ G-League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd, since last year. The team has not released a cause of death.

Wolf played for seven NBA teams and had two stints each with the Charlotte Hornets and Denver Nuggets.

“Joe touched many live and was a highly respected, adored and dedicated coach and player in the NBA,” a Bucks statement said. “His esteemed talent played an important role with the Bucks and Herd during eight years with the organization, including as a player and coach.”

Wolf had three opportunities to become a head coach, all at the developmental level.

The teams that are now the Salt Lake City Stars and the Texas Legends were coached by Wolf, as were the Greensboro Swarm, the current G-League affiliate of the Hornets.

There’s more to come.
