Long-time pals Eddie Redmayne and Andrew Garfield enjoy a giddy meet-up in London

Their glitzy celebrity life is a far cry from their early days as young friends rushing into Hollywood for their big acting break.

But it seems the bond between acclaimed actors Eddie Redmayne and Andrew Garfield, forged as part of a group of upstart Brits trying to find fame in LA some 15 years ago, has stood the test of time.

Dressed casually in shades, the pair were seen laughing and cuddling as they recently shared a walk in the sun in London’s Marylebone.

They were part of a gang of young British actors, which also included Jamie Dornan, 41, Robert Pattinson, 37, and Charlie Cox, 40, who struck up friendships in the US as young performers while trying to break through.

Spider-Man star Garfield, 39, and Oscar winner Redmayne, some say were roommates when they were there. Fantastic Beasts actor Redmayne also shared lodging with Fifty Shades star Dornan in the late 2000s.

Redmayne previously revealed in an interview that he had table tennis battles with Garfield during these formative days of their careers.

He said, “I remember playing with Andrew one time, and he showed up with a ping pong bat in a suitcase.

“I was like, ‘He’s not messing around. But he can play ping pong very well.’

Garfield, who was nominated for an Oscar for the film Tick, Tick…Boom! out 2021, in an interview with the Daily Telegraph last year, described the group’s life in LA, saying it was “real British-abroad stuff.”

He added, “We’d wake up every morning and it’d be, ‘Where are we going for breakfast?’ “When are we going to the beach?” “When do you want to play ping pong?”

“We went to the Standard Hotel on Sunset Boulevard and ordered a single cocktail together so we could just sit there and swim in the pool.”

Dornan, who as well as the Fifty Shades franchise was the star of last year’s BBC1 hit series The Tourist, was roommates with Redmayne in LA around 2009.

Friends: He claimed the actors

Pals: He claimed the actors were “never competitive with each other” even though they were sometimes up for the same roles

He told SiriusXM last year. Garfield and Robert [Pattinson] were always around, and Charlie Cox’ Dornan added, “I mean, there’s a lot of us who’ve done pretty well for ourselves in the end. But at the time we weren’t. We were beautiful, yes, beautiful, quite messy’.

He claimed that the actors were “never competitive with each other,” even though they were sometimes up for the same roles.

A Dornan associate who recalled those early days had told the New York Post that they were all “rushed, trying to make a name for themselves, and they just bonded.” The source added that they would “compare all the rejections they received.”

Born in LA but raised in England, Garfield lives mostly in North London. He made his American film debut in 2007 alongside Robert Redford, Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise in the film Lions for Lambs.

Redmayne won an Oscar for his 2014 film The Theory of Everything, about physicist Stephen Hawking, and was nominated again the following year for his portrayal of a transgender artist in The Danish Girl.
