Santos participated in the virtual interview from what appeared to be the back seat of an SUV.

He claimed Romney tried to persuade him to sit in the back of the room for President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address earlier this year — and slammed the Utah senator for wearing a Ukrainian lapel pin during the speech.

The interaction led Santos to compare herself to Rosa Parks.

“I mean, Mitt Romeny, the man who goes to the state of the Union of the United States with a Ukrainian lapel pin, tells me, a Latino, gay man that I shouldn’t sit in the front — that I should sit in the front. back,” Santos complained. ‘Well, guess what? Rosa Parks wasn’t in the back, and I’m not going to be in the back. That’s just the reality of how it works.’

Parks became a noted civil rights hero after, in a 1955 incident, she refused to get up from her seat on a public bus to make room for white passengers, even though she was in the section segregated for “colored” passengers.

She was arrested for civil disobedience, which was against Alabama segregation laws at the time.

Santos suggests that Romney was trying to sequester him—as a minority member of the LBTQ community—to the back of the room.

Mitt Romney lives in a very different world. And he needs to buckle up — it’s going to be a very bumpy ride for him,” the Long Island lawmaker concluded.

Rep. Santos is facing multiple investigations and was arrested and jailed on 13 charges, including wire fraud and theft of public funds.
