Why London is BETTER than Australia: Expat spills on why moving to the UK is a great idea – and claims everyone ‘ages slower’ there
Many people have left London for the high cost of living or the dream of a sunnier life. But one Australian has revealed why the city is ‘better than Australia’.
Bronte Chandler, an Australian living in the UK, said that living in the big city has some great attractions that you don’t get at home, and travel is just one of them.
“I’m an Australian living in London and I’m going to give you the reasons why you should move,” she said in a video.
“I’m normally someone who likes to complain, so this is a nice change.”
The ease of travel, the jobs available, the people you meet and ‘growing old slowly’ are some of the reasons why Bronte thinks living in the English capital is better than life Down Under.
1. The ticket to Europe and the rest of the world
According to Bronte, London is hard to beat when it comes to grabbing a quick, cheap flight for a short break to Europe.
“You can literally get on a plane after work for £20 and go to Italy,” she said.
Bronte Chandler, from Australia, is enjoying life in London and said the British capital offers easy travel, interesting new friends and better job opportunities than Australia.

She added that travelling is so cheap, easy and fast, something we find ‘unheard of’ at home.
Bronte loves that London is only seven hours from New York, ten hours from LA, about ten hours from Singapore and four hours from warmer and exotic African destinations.
2. Everyone is poor
Bronte ‘turned the situation around’, saying that the dire cost of living in London was actually enormously liberating.
“Of course it’s incredibly stressful not having any money, but most people are in the same boat, which means everyone is poor,” she said.
She said the general lack of disposable income created a “more level playing field”, making it acceptable to be stressed about money without feeling like you were “falling behind” others.
3. No one is in a hurry to grow up
While the Australian says this may be a bit ‘random’, she loves that as a 27-year-old in London there’s no pressure to settle down.
“27-year-olds in Melbourne are settling down, while in London they act like they’re 21,” she said.
“I have friends who are in their mid-30s and none of them are anywhere near settling down.”
She said growing older in the British capital is a “slower process” and leaves more time for fun, travel and pursuing a career.
4. The great jobs on offer
The Australian digital creator added that London is a global city and the employment opportunities are “huge” if you work in marketing or business, as many major brands have their headquarters there.
“Depending on your industry, you can get a really cool job,” she said.
‘I got a job in social media at an international agency. The size of the projects and budgets is huge compared to Australia. I manage the European markets.’
5. There is always something to do
According to Bronte, London has a good reputation for culture. He said that living in the cosmopolitan city means there is always something to do.
This is a big change from life in Australia, which is described as too ‘boring’ by expats and locals.
Whether it’s a concert, a gig, a new bar or the opening of a restaurant, she loves the fact that there’s always something happening that makes life in the British capital so ‘exciting’.
6. The people you meet
While the expat admitted she is “naturally attracted” to other Australians abroad, she said these are usually people with a “similar mindset”.
“They always want to do something, they are here on a temporary visa and they have so much energy, they are all yes-men.”
But Bronte said the city is also a hub where you can meet new friends from different countries and other parts of the UK and build a “crazy” global network.
7. It forces you to step out of your comfort zone
The Australian said that living in a cosmopolitan city forces you out of your comfort zone because you learn so many new things.
‘Living abroad is one of the best things you can do. It gives you a great perspective and it feels like there’s a whole other world out there.’
She added that what would normally seem like a big problem in Australia isn’t such a big problem thanks to the perspective that living in London has given her.
Bronte added that it was an “exciting” experience to live in a completely new city, a sentiment echoed by many Australians who were on the verge of making the move.
