Loki season 2, Our Flag Means Death season 2, a Netflix heist thriller, and more new TV this week

The WGA strike is over, which means television production is resuming. But new firsts are never completely stopped, either; Most networks or streaming platforms had already finished and scheduled some shows, so we might not feel the full effects of the work stoppage for a while. Show as family guy And The simpsons are still going strong – premiering this week on Fox, but now available on some streaming services – but network television offers a few new things too. Take FindNBC’s missing persons procedural, which begins October 3.

Then there are also highly anticipated shows returning after long hiatuses: Loki Season 2 arrives on Disney Plus this week, with Marvel’s live-action second season premiering. Lupine and its non-sense (non-pejorative) heist is back with part 3 on Netflix. And Our flag means death is here to right all the wrongs of this world (the separation of Stede and Blackbeard) – and also to do some piracy, of course.

Here are all of this week’s notable TV premieres and finales:

New shows on Netflix

Lupine Part 3

Gender: Steering assistant
Release date: October 5, with all episodes
Showrunner/creator: George Kay and François Uzan
Cast: Omar Sy, Ludivine Sagnier, Etan Simon, etc.

Parts 1 and 2 of Lupine followed Assane’s (Omar Sy) attempt to gain retribution for his father’s death, while using his skills as a gentleman thief. In part three, Assane is the most wanted man in France and he tries to keep danger away from his wife and son. But of course, a heist is all about surprises. And apparently, Assane isn’t done with some unexpected events.

New shows on Disney Plus

Loki season 2

Gender: Bureaucratic multiverse time travel adventure
Release date: October 5, with one episode
Showrunner/creator: Eric Martin
Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jonathan Majors, Ke Huy Quan

Loki is back! In Loki! This is the first time that the MCU has made a season 2 of a series… ever. So on top of the usual Time Bureau hijinks and whatever is going on with Kang the Conqueror, it’s hard to know what to expect from this Marvel series. If I had to guess: some links with the MCU.

New Shows on Hulu

Krapopolis

Gender: Animated comedy
Release date: October 1 on Fox, the next day on Hulu
Showrunner/creator: Dan Harmon
Cast: Duncan Trussell, Richard Ayoade, Pam Murphy, Hannah Waddingham, Matt Berry and more

This is another animated comedy from Dan Harmon, co-creator of Rick and Mortyand creator of Community. Like these other shows, Krapopolis features an imperfect family, all trying to get through the day and not kill each other. Unlike those other series, it’s about a family of humans, gods, and monsters trying to rule an ancient city.

Dread Krewe

Gender: Spooky animated adventure for all ages
Release date: October 2, with one episode (on Hulu and Peacock)
Showrunner/creator: Eli Roth and James Frey
Cast: Sydney Mikayla, Terrence Little Gardenhigh, Tim Johnson Jr., Grace Lu, Chester Rushing and more

A story as old as time: a group of high school students accidentally awaken a malicious demon, and they receive all the superpowers of the “queen of voodoo” Marie Laveau in order to put an end to it. Eli Roth’s presence here is no joke; Dread Krewe lives up to its name. As our review says, you should watch Dread Krewe because we need more shows like Dread Krewe!

Only Murders in the Building Season 3 Finale

Gender: Detective story
Release date: October 3
Showrunner/creator: Steve Martin and John Hoffman
Cast: Selena Gomez, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, Jesse Williams and more

Which of the Pickwick Triplets did it?? We may never know. But I hope this week we find out who really killed Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd).

New shows on Max

Our flag means death season 2

Gender: Pirate romantic comedy
Release date: October 5, with three episodes
Showrunner/creator: David Jenkins
Cast: Rhys Darby, Taika Waititi, Joel Fry, Vico Ortiz, Nathan Foad, Joel Fry and more

When we last left Stede (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi), they were looking to find each other – one to reunite romantically and the other to possibly kill him dead. Season 2 takes them both deep into their feelings, and their crews, unfortunately, go along with them. That is, until a new pirate queen appears.

New shows on Peacock

Found season 1

Gender: Network procedure
Release date: October 1 on NBC, the next day on Peacock
Showrunner/creator: Nkechi Okoro Carroll
Cast: Shanola Hampton, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Kelli Williams, Brett Dalton, Gabrielle Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta, Karan Oberoi

The new NBC procedural is a lot like most procedurals of the past: a “recovery specialist” and her team are called into cases of missing people and travel to the ends of the earth to find them. Before you ask, yes, of course it’s personal for them, because they’ve all experienced a mysterious disappearance in their past. The title of each episode contains clues to the missing person deal – “Missing While Sinning” or “Missing While Indigenous” – indicating that this mystery show mixes its tone and focus from episode to episode .

Chucky season 3

Gender: Killer doll
Release date: October 3 on Syfy, the next day on Peacock
Showrunner/creator: Don Mancini
Cast: Jennifer Tilly, Brad Dourif, Zackary Arthur, Bjorgvin Arnarson, Alyvia Alyn Lind and more

THE The killer doll is back in town. And this time… it’s nestled in the White House? Which certainly doesn’t look like a GOOD place for Chucky. But who knows where the Constitution stands on this.
