Logan Central crash: Young man fighting for life after crash had only just been released from hospital after suffering injuries in another motor accident

EXCLUSIVE

A young man fighting for his life after a horrific car crash had only just been released from hospital after weeks in a coma following another car crash that left him blind in one eye.

Callum Ticulin, 23, and Hayden Sheldrick, 23, were driving a red Ford Falcon along Bardon Road in Logan Central, south of Brisbane, about 11pm on Sunday when they collided head-on with a white Toyota HiAce van.

The two men, another 21-year-old man in their car, as well as the 35-year-old female driver of the van and her 63-year-old male passenger all suffered serious injuries.

Two people were placed in a coma at the scene and all five people were rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal Mr Ticulin was in a car accident in late November after his vehicle crashed into the back of a truck, causing the box to smash through his windscreen.

He suffered a crushed skull, a broken nose, leg injuries requiring skin grafts, permanent blindness in one eye and spent four weeks in a coma in intensive care.

While he was fighting for life, his father also tragically died and was unable to attend the funeral.

After emerging from his coma just days before Christmas, Mr Ticulin spent several more weeks in a hospital rehabilitation unit before being released earlier this month.

He was also awaiting further surgery for his injuries, including facial reconstruction, for which his mother set up a GoFundMe campaign in November.

Just three weeks ago, Mr Ticulin issued a warning from his hospital bed, urging others to be careful on the roads.

“I’m awake, I’m alive,” he said.

‘I am blind in one eye. I’m slowly getting better. I can’t reply to all your (messages) as there are hundreds.

“But I say one thing: don’t drink or drive.”

He fought for his life for weeks with multiple injuries, including a skull fracture and a blood clot, which forced doctors to remove his left eye.

It remains unclear who was driving the Ford at the time of the crash, but online photos show Mr Sheldrick is the owner of a red Ford Falcon.

Daily Mail Australia does not suggest there was any wrongdoing by Mr Sheldrick or Mr Ticulin.

Mr Ticulin’s devastated mother, Nicole Tishler, said her son was a passenger in the car at the time of the crash.

She said her son was in a medically induced coma and had two full days of surgery ahead of him after suffering many broken bones and wounds that required “hundreds” of stitches.

“He has still not recovered from his last accident and was still waiting for surgery on his eye,” she wrote on Facebook.

Ms. Tishler also said that so was Mr. Sheldrick, who is “like a son” to her also fighting for life.

‘WTF is happening. My baby (sic) has been through enough,” she added.

“I just can’t believe this.”

While police are still working to determine the cause of the crash, initial investigations indicate the Ford was traveling north and the Toyota was traveling south when they collided.

Anyone who has information or insight into the accident, or the moments leading up to it, is asked to contact the police.
