Lo Bosworth reveals feud with Audrina Patridge on The Hills was fake as she describes how editing twisted their dynamic: ‘We were totally friends’

Contrary to what The Hills season four viewers were led to believe, Lo Bosworth insists she was friends with Audrina Patridge.

During an interview with Page sixLo, 37, claimed the editing made their friendly relationship look anything but.

“On the season of The Hills where Audrina and I were at odds, when they shot that season, I had no idea we were at odds,” she explained. “I thought we were friends, and then the edit came out and it wasn’t exactly a flattering edit of me.”

Despite being on good terms during filming, she believes the final cut ultimately caused Audrina to question their relationship.

“I think unfortunately for her that created a feeling of, ‘Oh, we shouldn’t be friends in real life,'” she recalled of Audrina.

“That season we were totally friends in real life and the show comes out and it changes your real life relationship.”

Lo claimed that the editors had already plotted out the entire season: “You don’t know when you go to those shows when you’re young, they already have the entire season mapped out on a wall with Post-It notes of the whole storyline with the arcs and this person is going to do this and this person is going to do that,” she said.

She recalled a strategy producers implemented to keep the season on track: “On our show, they basically had us sit down for a scene, they filmed it, and then they moved the cameras.

“And they did it five or six times and they did it like this…they made you say what they wanted you to say,” she said.

“They ended up doing it so that they could get the discount they wanted to fit the story they had planned.”

The Hills was the spin-off of another wildly popular MTV show that Lo starred in: Laguna Beach.

For three seasons, Laguna Beach followed a group of high school students in the affluent Orange County community before their post-graduation lives continued in The Hills.

The MTV show that started it all is now 20 years old, and Lo teased a reunion with her Laguna Beach castmates.

“I think everyone who was on the first season of Laguna Beach, if there is a reunion, has agreed to do it, which I’m really excited about,” said Lo, who now works in the wellness industry.

“I think if I had been asked a few years ago I might have been more nervous about doing it. But I think at this point in my life, for anyone watching, it’s the 20th anniversary of the show. For me it’s the twentieth anniversary of my high school graduation.’

The latest interview comes after Lo opened up about her experience filming The Hills during an appearance on Bethenny Frankel’s podcast Just B with Bethenny Frankel.

She said of the show last month: “We were very young women who were constantly put in compromised situations where we had to compete against each other to get through a day of production.”

Bosworth had no interest in drama, which didn’t make her a good fit for the reality TV space, she noted.

‘I fulfilled a very specific role, which in retrospect I am actually grateful for. I didn’t have to go into it too much,” she said on the podcast.

Lo added, “But in the areas where I did that, it still haunts me to this day because there are so many stories behind this story that everyone saw on television that are contrary to what the public of you think.’

She also speculated why former co-star and classmate Lauren Conrad has taken a step back from the spotlight.

‘I think [she was] famous to some extent that when something happened that was negative, the blowback felt so important and so life-changing that you actually live with that trauma and it affects you in the future in terms of how much you’re willing to share with people,’ thought she.
