Lizzo saves the day as a friendly neighborhood superhero in her new music video Special

Lizzo dropped a music video for her song Special on Wednesday.

The “Truth Hurts” singer, 34, donned a superhero costume for the video as she went around her neighborhood saving people while dealing with people debating whether she was a “hero or a woman-ass.”

For the chorus, the beauty sings: “In case nobody told you today / You’re special (special) / In case nobody made you believe / You’re special (special).”

Both the video and the song focused on the importance of loving yourself, supporting others, and self-esteem.

Since bursting onto the music scene with her hit Truth Hurts in 2017, the superstar has been a champion of body positivity and has made inclusivity one of her main goals.

Superhero: Lizzo dropped a music video for her song Special on Wednesday

The video begins with Lizzo flying into the frame in a figure-hugging purple superhero costume, complete with a mask and long purple fingernails.

Her long dark hair is left loose in tight curls down her back, and she sports purple eyeshadow on her lids.

The music begins as she walks into her house, tosses her suit onto a chair, and climbs onto her bed while wearing a sweatshirt from her inclusive shapewear company Yitty.

Her first verse focuses on someone criticizing a video she posted and wondering if she wasn’t the one who posted it, would they have a problem?

Lizzo finds the video and helps herself to a bowl of cereal as she sees someone on the news talking about her being a superhero with the words ‘Lizzo: hero or ace woman?’

She then sings: ‘Is it just because I’m black and heavy? However, you do not listen to me.

The video shows her character working at a local restaurant, dressed in a purple old-fashioned waitress outfit. Her hair is up in a high ponytail, and she has a name tag on her that says Melly.

The singer looks at the checkbook and sees that someone wrote ‘Eat a salad’ on it. She shakes off it, but then two guys hit her with a spit.

During this part, she sings, “Fame is pretty new, but I’ve gotten used to people judging me / That’s why I move the way I move and that’s why I’m so in love with myself.”

As the first chorus arrives, the camera cuts to a little girl who looks like a younger Lizzo crossing the street. She is playing with an action figure of Lizzo’s superhero alter ego.

It then cuts to Lizzo in her diner uniform, walking through an angry crowd that is against her being a superhero. They hold signs reading ‘public enemy’ and ‘hope over heroes’.
