LIZZIE KELLY: Constitution Hill’s laid-back temperament was inherited from my old mount Dingle

LIZZIE KELLY: Constitution Hill’s extremely laid-back temperament was inherited from my old mount Dingle… and I’ll give her an extra cheer for her at the Cheltenham Festival.

  • I rode her mother, the queen of the stage, and she was as calm as a lamb.
  • She was so calm and trustworthy, even with the most inexperienced riders.
  • I won a Mares novice hurdle at Exeter with it on 18th December 2014

The potentially wonderful horse, Constitution Hill, is unusual in that he possesses an extremely laid-back temperament, and I can see why. I rode her dam, Queen Of The Stage, when my stepdad, Nick Williams, trained her, and she was as calm as a lamb.

We used to know her by her stable name of Dingle! She was so calm and trustworthy that you wouldn’t have worried about anyone at the stable riding her, even the most inexperienced riders.

I loved riding her, she was a real trier. I was claiming £7 as a conditional jockey when I won a Mares Novice Hurdle at Exeter riding Queen Of The Stage on 18th December 2014. It was a typical performance for her.

He traveled well, jumped hard, and dug deep.

In five subsequent races we’ve finished second once, but arguably our best day together was finishing third behind a Willie Mullins-trained hotpot in a Listed Mares’ Hurdle at Sandown in February 2015. Queen Of The Stage beat their odds 20-1 that day.

Constitution Hill is unusual in that he possesses an extremely laid-back temperament.

When former jockey Barry Geraghty was tending Constitution Hill after buying him as a colt, his three young daughters would ride him because he was so calm.

Obviously Constitution Hill, Queen Of The Stage’s first colt, is in a different league in terms of abilities, but perhaps his temperament was inherited from my old mount Dingle.

I’ll give her an extra cheer on Tuesday afternoon for her.
