Liz Truss is holding a series of farewell events for MPs and staff at Checkers in her last weekend as Prime Minister.

The outgoing Prime Minister, who resigned this week after a disastrous 44 days in No10, is using the Buckinghamshire mansion for a series of farewell parties.

A source in Downing Street revealed that the Prime Minister – at her personal expense – had gathered MPs and staff at the 16th-century manor house to thank them.

It comes amid an argument over whether Ms Truss should be entitled to the £115,000 annual allowance given to ex-Prime Ministers after her term in office lasted just six weeks.

She will also receive a payout of £18,860 for her historically short tenure.

In an investigation into Mrs Truss’s spectacular demise, a former adviser has accused the prime minister of ignoring the “political realities of the outside world” once she came to power.

Kirsty Buchanan, special adviser to Mrs Truss at the Justice Department and who also worked in Downing Street under Theresa May, claimed the prime minister’s reputation was “tattered”.

“The seeds of destruction were sown early as she shut out all but her closest allies and cocooned with those who shared her views,” Ms Buchanan wrote in the statement. Sunday Times.

With the disappearance of experience and institutional knowledge, dangerous groupthink and staggering naivety took over at number 10.

Hubris went unchecked when humility was demanded from a government that did not deserve its majority, but inherited it.

‘Politics was baked in a petri dish, away from the political reality of the outside world.’

The former aide to Mrs Truss said it would take “every ounce of her famous resilience” for the prime minister to “return from this humiliation”.

“However, I suspect that the humility in the eyes of her daughters, of whom she is immensely proud, will hit Truss hardest,” she added.

The same newspaper reported that Ms Truss held a farewell party for ministers last night and would tonight thank close associates and their partners.

No10 confirmed that the Prime Minister was at Checkers this weekend.

Her predecessor, Boris Johnson, also used Checkers to throw a farewell party after he was forced to resign as prime minister this summer.

Like all outgoing ministers, Ms Truss will be entitled to a quarter of her annual salary as severance pay.

Mrs Truss earned a total salary of £164,080: £84,144 as a Member of Parliament, plus a further £75,440 as Prime Minister.

It means she is in line for a payout of £18,860 due to her resignation as Prime Minister.

She will continue to receive her salary of £84,144 as Member of Parliament for South West Norfolk.

Meanwhile, on top of the £18,860 payout, Ms Truss is also entitled to compensation of up to £115,000 a year for former Prime Ministers.

Payments are made to help former prime ministers continue to fulfill their public duties through running an office.

They are entitled to the money for the rest of their lives, unless they take another public position.

Former prime ministers must provide supporting documents — such as staff salary records or travel receipts — in order to receive the money.
