Living nightmare for residents as Men At Work’s ‘Down Under’ blasts all night on a loop from the local high school

  • A high school’s PA system was malfunctioning
  • It blasted ‘Down Under’ on repeat for hours

A small community woke up feeling more Australian than ever after a school’s loudspeaker system blared the country’s unofficial anthem all night long.

Houses around Saint Stephen’s College in Upper Coomera in the Gold Coast were awakened Monday night by an endlessly looping tape of Men at Work’s ‘Down Under’.

An instrumental of the song was blasted at full volume, started around 9:30 pm and couldn’t be stopped immediately.

Staff have since apologized to the affected community and assured them this will not happen again.

A video filmed by a passerby immortalized the moment as they drove slowly past the school in disbelief.

The music played for hours to the delight of those on the internet, but to the detriment of those living it.

Although no lyrics were played over the speaker, the tune was unmistakable and obnoxious.

Halfway through the video, the tune began to fade to silence for a split second in a moment of relief before the iconic drums cut the silence again like a knife.

Those watching on the internet couldn’t get enough of what looked like a scene straight out of an Australian parody.

“Celebrated Matilda’s victory last night,” one said.

“The beat drop is fire on the speakers,” a second added.

‘Wouldn’t have complained! banggga,” joked a third.

Saint Stephen’s College sincerely apologized to surrounding homes that endured the late-night music marathon, promising it wouldn’t happen again.

“Saint Stephen’s College sincerely apologizes for the technical issues that occurred late last night with our personal address system,” a spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

“We understand how disruptive and frustrating it was for our surrounding neighbors to hear the song “Land Down Under” played repeatedly in the community from 9:30pm.

After the school became aware of the situation, a team “worked tirelessly through the night” in an attempt to silence the other Men at Work.

“It is always our intention to be a considerate and respectful neighbor and we understand that this incident does not meet these standards, and we apologize for this.”

People who viewed the video online thoroughly enjoyed the video, with one person explaining that his school was just celebrating Matilda’s (FIFA) victory last night.
