Liverpool have unveiled their new 2024-2025 kit with a touch of nostalgia after using a legendary former shirt as inspiration.

The Reds are preparing for a new season without manager Jurgen Klopp after the German announced he would be leaving his post at Anfield after nine years – with Feyenoord boss Arne Slot replacing him at the helm.

And now the club have given a glimpse of what life at the club will be like after the 56-year-old departs after unveiling their new strip for next season – which is inspired by their famous 1984 team.

That iconic side wore a similar design as they won the First Division, League Cup and European Cup treble under manager Joe Fagan with a team widely regarded as the best in their history.

The new shirt marks a significant change from the current kit, which is predominantly plain red with a white collar and sleeve.

Liverpool have shown off their new kit for the 2024-2025 season, with captain Virgil van Dijk leading the jersey.

This version features a pinstripe down the body and two white straps with a red stripe down the middle that acts as a collar, just like the classic design.

There is also a horizontal line running through the center of the pinstripe pattern, giving the design a sharper look.

Last season the team’s logos were all white, but things have been changed up slightly for the next campaign. Now the manufacturer’s logo for Nike and the club emblem have been set in gold.

However, Liverpool’s main sponsor Standard Chartered remains in white, as does sleeve sponsor Expedia.

Club captain Virgil van Dijk led the Liverpool stars as they showed off the new kit on a Liverpool-branded Vespa – a nod to the Reds’ European Cup final triumph on penalties against Rome in the Italian capital.

Defender Joe Gomez was another player to model the kit for next season

The Dutchman modeled for the strip despite questions about his own future, with the defender’s contract set to expire next season. Earlier in the season he refused to commit his future to the club, before later insisting he ‘loves the club’.

Van Dijk, who modeled the kit alongside Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister and Joe Gomez, said he was happy with the new design and praised the ‘retro’ feel of the shirt.

He praised the famous 1984 team and hoped that it would allow the current team to ‘build on history’.

‘I’m a big fan of our new kit for next season and love that we’re bringing back the retro vibe. We are a club built on history and the 1984 team was one of our most successful ever. I’m sure our fans will appreciate the nod to these club legends.”

Meanwhile, women’s team captain Taylor Hinds said: ‘It’s such a different look for the new season, and we can’t wait to wear it. The retro inspiration always makes you feel like you have a part of the club’s history with you as you play.”

Liverpool’s plans for next season come as Slot moves closer to his appointment as the new manager.

Last week, Mail Sport reported that his Dutch club Feyenoord were willing to do a deal for Slot to become Liverpool boss after Slot publicly admitted he wanted to take over the job.

Feyenoord, as Mail Sport revealed earlier this week, want damages of at least £8.6 million to release Slot from his contract.

The Dutch club are trying to force through a deal that would see Liverpool pay more than €10 million for their manager, a figure that does not include the staff members who would follow him to England.
