A player from Frankfurt’s Under-19 team is alleged to have used a racist term to insult a Liverpool player
Frankfurt’s sporting director Timmo Hardung claimed the player had misunderstood.
According to Hardung, the player used the slang term “digga,” which means “bro” or “dude.”
Hardung told BILD: ‘Our entire NLZ is like Eintracht Frankfurt: multicultural and we have clear values that we live by and continuously pursue.
‘Racism has no place here, but we still take such an accusation seriously.’
Hardung added that “we can rule out racism.”
He said: ‘After consultation, our player confirmed that he had used the word ‘digga’, which is common in youth slang, during a normal match. We have no doubt that this claim is correct.
‘We can rule out racism, it is a language issue and we hope that we have clarified the misunderstanding with the players involved and those responsible at Liverpool FC.’
Mail Sport has contacted Liverpool for comment.
