Liverpool have informed Bayern Munich that they will make a formal offer for midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

The 21-year-old, who is valued at around £30 million, did not train with his colleagues on Thursday morning as he remained on standby for negotiations.

Bayern still want to sign a new midfielder first and keep talks with Fulham about Joao Palhinha.

Earlier this week Gravenberch agreed personal terms for a move to Merseyside.

Mail Sport reported in Premier League Q and A on Wednesday that Liverpool were preparing a formal approach for Gravenberch, with the player keen to move to Anfield.

The club’s German sports director, Jorg Schmadtke, has extensive experience with the Bundesliga and has been a key figure in the ongoing discussions to date.

The Netherlands international joined Bayern last summer for £21 million on a five-year deal with the Bavarian giants, beating Manchester United’s interest in securing his signature.

However, Gravenberch struggled to maintain a consistent place in the starting eleven in his first season in Germany, as Die Roten recovered from poor form to secure an eleventh straight league title on the final day of last season.

Jurgen Klopp is said to be a great admirer of the former Ajax star, as his versatility gives the Reds several opportunities in midfield.

The Reds are in need of reinforcements after a number of former stalwarts left the club this summer.

Jordan Henderson joined former teammate Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, while Fabinho also moved to the Saudi Pro League and joined Al-Ittihad, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all left last season at the end of their contract.

Meanwhile, Bayern continues to negotiate with Chelsea over defender Trevoh Chalobah.

Chalobah still has five years left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, but the former England international has yet to make an appearance for the Blues this season.
