Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai insists Mohamed Salah ‘wants to STAY’ at Anfield despite £200m interest from Saudi Arabia – as he admits the Reds NEED to keep the Egyptian star

Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai says Mohamed Salah ‘wants to stay at Anfield’ after his goal in 3-0 win over Aston Villa – while Jurgen Klopp insists Reds position won’t change despite £200m interest from Saudi Arabia

Mohamed Salah wants to stay at Liverpool, according to new Reds midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, with manager Jurgen Klopp adding he is happy the Egyptian is ‘part of my team’.

Liverpool star Salah was part of a transfer saga with Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad, which saw an eye-watering £150 million offer rejected for the 31-year-old on Thursday. The big spenders then warned that they were ready to break the world transfer record and offer £200 million.

But Klopp and the club have long argued that Salah is not for sale – and both Szoboszlai and Klopp stepped in to allay fears after beating Aston Villa 3-0 at Anfield.

“He wants to stay here,” said Szoboszlai, who scored Liverpool’s first goal before an own goal and a strike from Salah.

“He wants to be here, he wants to stay with us. In the end he stayed and that’s great news. He’s a top player.’

Manager Jurgen Klopp bizarrely denied that Salah had told the side he wanted to stay

Klopp bizarrely denied that Salah had told the side he wanted to stay, but the manager added: “No. He didn’t tell me, but he didn’t have to. He speaks with his training and performance and behavior. He’s all there and if Dom said so, fine.

“Mo doesn’t have to come to my office and tell me, ‘By the way, boss… (I’m not going)’.” The Saudi window is open until Thursday and Al Ittihad was expected to further test Liverpool’s resolve, but when asked if the club’s position remains the same, Klopp said simply: “Yes.”

Salah, who scored 30 goals in all competitions for Liverpool last season, is part of the club’s leading squad and signed a new three-year contract last summer, making him the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history.

Liverpool have already seen a number of players leave for Saudi Arabia, with Jordan Henderson relinquishing the club captaincy to join Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, while Fabinho and Roberto Firmino also secured departures.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson and central defender Ibrahima Konate were also the subject of interest, but were keen to continue with the Premier League giants.
