Micah Richards has described the 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Arsenal as one of the greatest matches he has ever seen.

In a hugely entertaining match, league leaders Arsenal secured a two-goal lead through Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus. Liverpool got a goal back through Mohamed Salah and later equalized through Roberto Firmino.

There were a host of other incidents including Salah missing a penalty, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale making some excellent saves and the Gunners later having an inviting chance of their own.

Richards said on Sky Sports: ‘I’m just coming down now. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever seen. I am not exaggerating.’

Arsenal haven’t won the league at Anfield in over a decade, but Richards was hugely impressed with how they approached Sunday’s game.

Richards praised Arsenal wingers Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli for their directness.

He added: “Arsenal were brilliant, tactically very good. Zinchenko comes in midfield, Martinelli and Saka at half-time. It was fluid, it was an excellent football game. Liverpool down and out, but how this place can be, the fans.’

Towards the end of the first half, Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka collided with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the incident rocking the Anfield crowd.

Richards felt the incident had a major impact on the game.

He said, “That disagreement between Trent and Xhaka lifted the whole crowd. Second half, Liverpool took advantage of that. They were brilliant in the second half.’

Roy Keane added that we have seen ‘the best and the worst’ of Liverpool.

Keane said, ‘A crazy, brilliant game. We’ve seen the best and worst of Liverpool. Bad first half everywhere. The guys in commentary described it as a mess, they were. They should have won the game in the second half.

They created the best chances. The fans were right behind them. Only if the Arsenal goalkeeper had made two wonderful saves would Liverpool have won the game.

Jamie Carragher admitted that Liverpool’s first-half performance was disappointing and added that they should have won the game.

Carragher said, “I don’t know how they’d get used to it. I watched the first half, they couldn’t get close to Arsenal.

“There’s something about coming to Anfield where strange things happen at different times. Liverpool should have won the game. I looked at that first half hour, Liverpool was a million miles away from it.

‘Defensively in all directions, not causing too many problems himself. Then you attack the Kop end, the crowd rises, I can’t believe Konate at the end. That’s why we and the big commentators have to make the big money.’

The result gives Arsenal a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League, although Manchester City still have a game in hand.

City host title rivals Arsenal on April 26 in a highly anticipated encounter.
