‘It seems they have a manager who knows his stuff’: Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher admits he is ‘concerned’ by bitter rivals Man United’s revival under Erik ten Hag

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher admits he is “worried” about the progress of bitter rivals Manchester United under Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils have struggled since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012, with their latest trophy coming in 2017 under José Mourinho.

But Man United currently sit third in the Premier League, just seven points behind leaders Arsenal, and reached the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

“I feel different under Erik ten Hag,” Carragher said on Sky Bet’s The Overlap.

‘I always felt there was a negativity around the previous managers. With José Mourinho it seemed that there were problems between him and the board.

‘With Louis van Gaal, I’m not sure the fans would agree with his style of football. and with ole [Gunnar Solskjaer]no one thought he would be a manager who could win United a title.

“But now it looks like they have a coach who knows what he’s doing. Also, there seems to be a spirit at United that we haven’t seen in a long time.

‘It feels like that’s coming back. I think there’s something going on at Manchester United that I didn’t see with those other managers. So it’s concern, yes!

United could also soon receive financial backing from a group of Qatari investors or from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Britain’s richest man and a lifelong United supporter.

A group of five serious bidders have emerged as the battle to buy Manchester United heads by the ‘soft deadline’ for next Friday’s bids, with some bids already in place.

Carragher does not expect United to challenge for the title this season and hopes Arsenal win the Premier League under ‘manager of the season’ Mikel Arteta.

Carragher added: “I’ve given them a title tip because I’m not sure Man City can get back to their best.”

‘The longer Man City are like this, the more breathing room Arsenal have. That buffer that Arsenal have at the moment is quite considerable. I think they will resist.

He also predicted that Southampton, Bournemouth and Leeds United will be relegated to the Championship.
