Darwin Nunez bucked one of the current football trends by choosing to give his shirt not to a waving supporter, but to a Liverpool ball boy – much to the delight of Reds fans.

A common phenomenon among the football crowd is that fans bring home-made signs asking their favorite player to give them their shirt after the matches.

After Liverpool’s match against the Seagulls, where Nunez helped his side to a crucial 2-1 win, a fan was seen in the crowd asking for the Uruguayan’s shirt.

But despite appearing to see the sign that read “Nunez, can I please have your jersey,” the forward opted not to pass his jersey to the crowd.

Instead, Nunez was seen handing his number 9 jersey to a lucky Liverpool ball boy as he appeared to look in the direction of the fan’s sign.

After seeing the social media footage of Nunez’s decision, some wondered if the Spanish-language star fully understood the request.

While others assumed Nunez may have thought the ball boy – reportedly a Liverpool academy player – deserved the memento.

“Gotta love this man,” one fan wrote on X, while another saw the funny side, saying, “Hahaha funny that tbf.”

In another post, Nunez was praised for his generosity saying; ‘Yes…brilliant when a lot of the ball boys these days are academy players. Very generous.’

There was even a cheeky comment made about the 24-year-old’s unpredictability in front of goal and him ‘missing’ the sign which read: ‘I wanted to give it to him but missed by two yards’.

Nunez started the match at Anfield as Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League thanks to Mohamed Salah’s second-half winner.

Luis Diaz had brought the Reds back into the game just before half-time after Danny Welbeck gave the visitors a shock lead inside just two minutes.

It was the first time Liverpool had beaten Brighton under Roberto De Zerbi, a name closely linked as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp.

After the match, both Nunez and Diaz were praised by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, with the German saying; ‘We need all the boys. Darwin opened up so many spaces for us, Lucho (Diaz) was incredible, so they were all very good today.”

As a result of that win and Arsenal’s goalless draw with Manchester City, Liverpool now lead the league, two points ahead of the Gunners in second place.
