Nottingham Forest fans unveiled a banner in support of the Hillsborough victims calling for an end to ‘tragedy chanting’.

The topic of ‘tragedy chanting’ has become prominent in recent months, with supporters mocking their opponents over previous incidents in which supporters lost their lives.

Those incidents included announcements by Chelsea and Manchester City condemning their supporters’ actions following Liverpool’s visit to both clubs.

The 1989 Hillsborough disaster occurred during an FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest – with the day’s events leading to the deaths of 97 fans of the Merseyside club.

Ahead of kick-off at Anfield today, Forest fans unveiled a 30-foot banner paying respect to the Hillsborough victims and calling for an end to ‘tragedy chanting’.

After the banner was unveiled, there was applause from Liverpool fans for Nottingham Forest supporters.
