  • The Reds will again fly to Singapore to face Leicester and Bayern Munich abroad
  • The news comes despite boss Jurgen Klopp’s misgivings about last year’s trip to Asia

Liverpool have announced their plans for the 2023-2024 season.

The Reds will once again fly to Singapore for matches against Premier League Leicester on July 30 and German giants Bayern Munich on August 2 as part of the Singapore Festival of Football.

The news comes despite manager Jurgen Klopp’s reservations about the previous campaign’s trip to Asia.

Last summer’s pre-season was a source of frustration for Klopp, who didn’t have enough time to get the job he wanted and also included a trip to the Far East that didn’t bring any sort of benefits the manager wanted. .

Liverpool’s commercial director Ben Latty said: ‘We are extremely excited to head back to Singapore for this summer’s pre-season tour. We were so impressed with the welcome and facilities – from the training ground to the stadium and infrastructure last year – that when the opportunity to return presented itself we grabbed it with both hands.

Boss Klopp wants a much better pre-season at Liverpool this summer after not having enough time to get the job he wanted ahead of what has been a tough season

“Pre-season is hugely important to us for a number of reasons. It’s an opportunity for fans who may never get the chance to come to Anfield to see their idols, and for the team to prepare for the season ahead.

“In Singapore, almost a fifth of the population identify as a Liverpool fan, which is great, and we can’t wait to meet them again.

‘Singapore is an easily accessible travel hub for LFC fans across the region. It is also of strategic importance to a number of our partners, including our lead partner Standard Chartered Bank, with whom we were delighted to extend our relationship for another four years when we visited Singapore last year.”

Last month, Mail sports reported that Klopp had begun planning Liverpool’s summer in minute detail as he warned his side that they cannot be left behind.

Klopp will report to work on July 8 and the international contingent will return on July 11. A training camp will then be held in Germany before Liverpool leave for Singapore at the end of July.

The German is keen to change things up from last year and wants the bulk of Liverpool’s transfer activity to be completed by July 8.

“This year has to be different,” Klopp said. ‘We have to get up. And we have to prepare that in the pre-season and that’s why I want to get them back together as soon as possible, taking into account the need for holidays.

“I know that and I respect that. I want them to go on vacation for as long as possible, but for this year we need to make sure we are together as soon as possible and can go from there. The next season is above all, frankly.’

Liverpool players are on a short break after their last match, followed by a two-week break at the end of June, but international players such as Mohamed Salah will return on July 11.

Both matches will be played at the country’s national stadium, with the Merseyside club going through an open training session the day before they face Leicester. They will also participate in “important local community projects and cultural activities.”

Liverpool are defending the Standard Chartered Singapore Trophy they won against Crystal Palace last year when they played the Foxes, and the game against Bayern will then have the Singapore Trophy on the line.

Patrick Lee, CEO of Standard Chartered Cluster, added: ‘We are delighted to welcome Liverpool back to Singapore.

“We look forward to the top level entertainment that the team will bring to our customers, colleagues and the communities here, alongside the other leading European clubs.

“Football has the unique ability to bring people from all walks of life together and Standard Chartered is delighted to play a leading role in delivering an unforgettable experience to Singapore fans, both on and off the pitch, at this inaugural football spectacle. .’
