LIVERPOOL CONFIDENTIAL: Celtic lead the interest in Caoimhin Kelleher, Andy Robertson is ramping up his on-pitch rehab ahead of returning to team training this month… while Darwin Nunez pays a visit to one of his former clubs

Celtic are one of several clubs interested in a summer move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, according to sources in Scotland, although it is likely the Reds would sell the Irishman for nothing other than a fair transfer fee if he were to make the decision to leave to leave.

The Irishman, who has made 11 appearances for the Reds this season, has been touted as a potential replacement for former England number 1 Joe Hart at Celtic Park with the 36-year-old’s contract expiring at the end of this season.

However, Celtic are likely to be challenged for Kelleher’s signature if he decides to leave this summer – a decision he has not yet made – and three Premier League clubs have also been eyeing the goalkeeper this season. Brentford, Brighton and Wolves showed interest last summer.

Liverpool number 1 Alisson Becker recently hinted that he would like to play for another decade and the Brazilian is still performing at his peak at elite level, meaning 25-year-old Kelleher could decide the summer is a good time to move on will look for minutes as first choice goalkeeper elsewhere.

Jurgen Klopp dismissed all rumors of Kelleher leaving last summer and the Reds do not want to lose him, although this could change if the goalkeeper looks to become No.1 elsewhere. It is also unlikely that Liverpool would approve the sale of Kelleher before finding a replacement.

It is suggested that the Reds have taken a number of looks at Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson, but there are doubts as to whether the 23-year-old is good enough for Premier League leadership.

ANDY ROBERTSON PERFORMS HIS WORK

Andy Robertson is making good progress and stepping up work on the training ground following his dislocated shoulder injury, with the Liverpool and Scotland left-back still on track to return to team training at the end of this month or early February.

Robertson has taken the opportunity when the team was free to do some warm weather training and the 29-year-old headed to Dubai last week. With most of his fitness work in Liverpool now taking place outdoors on training pitches, the heat of the Middle East may have been welcome.

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders said last week that Robertson would meet a shoulder specialist to see how strength improved. When that happens, it should provide a more precise date for the Scot to aim for a return to football.

Due to the nature of the injury, similar to the blow to the collarbone of fellow left back Kostas Tsimikas, Robertson returned to fitness and strength training fairly quickly, but was not yet allowed to participate in contact training.

FOWLER RALLIES FOR SVEN GORAN ERIKSSON

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has thrown his weight behind a campaign to honor terminally ill Sven Goran Eriksson’s lifelong dream of coaching the Reds, with the former England boss expected to get the chance to do so in an upcoming legends match.

Eriksson, who led the national team for five years, revealed this week that in a “best case” scenario he has a year to live amid a battle with pancreatic cancer. The Swede, 75, told Sky News his biggest regret in football was never taking over at Anfield.

But Fowler has confirmed he is working on the case to honor Eriksson’s wishes in the charity match against Ajax on March 23. Eriksson told Good Morning Breakfast that “it would be my dream” to be in the Liverpool dugout that day if he is healthy. enough.

DARWIN NUNEZ TAKES A BREAK

Darwin Nunez has taken a break from playing for the Premier League leaders to watch the La Liga leaders, with the Liverpool forward playing in Girona’s match against Almeria this weekend.

Nunez played for Almeria in the 2019/20 season, scoring 16 goals in 30 games, before signing for Benfica. It was not an exciting match, however, but the team that brought him to Europe from Penarol did pick up a valuable point in a 0-0 draw against surprising pacesetter Girona.

Liverpool’s stars were given a few days off after the Carabao Cup win over Fulham before playing again until Sunday at Bournemouth. Trent Alexander-Arnold has been working hard on his recovery from a knee injury, but took part in a fashion show in Milan.

Dominik Szoboszlai, who missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, hopes to be fit again for next Sunday’s trip to the south coast. He had been training on the field and had started running exercises before the free time.

CALVIN RAMSEY TO B REMEMBERS

Calvin Ramsay becomes the latest Liverpool star to be recalled this month from a frustrating loan spell that saw the highly rated Scottish defender suffer an injury-riddled season and then struggle for game time at Preston.

The Reds have already recalled Fabio Carvalho (RB Leipzig), Rhys Williams (Aberdeen), Owen Beck (Dundee), James Balagizi (Wigan) and Nat Phillips (Celtic) since the January transfer window opened.

It was a disappointing performance for Liverpool’s Under 21s, who were beaten by Brighton on Saturday, but the Under 18s enjoyed a fine win over Stoke – and scored one of the goals of the season.

Goalkeeper Kornel Misciur launched the attack and the Reds played some beautiful, game-changing football to get up the field in eight passes, ultimately ending in a tricky run from the impressive Kieran Morrison and a thumping finish from Cody Pennington.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s Under 18s are back in action in the FA Youth Cup against Jack Wilshere’s Arsenal in Kirkby on Saturday. The match is live on LFCTV and we were able to see some of the under 21 players who are eligible. The Under 21s are not playing this week.

WOMEN’S WATCH

Congratulations to Matt Beard, who was last week named the Women’s Super League Manager of the Month award for December. Beard, who is having an impressive season, led his side to an unbeaten month with a 1-1 draw against Bristol City and a fantastic 2-1 comeback win over Manchester United. That win put the Reds level on points with United, who finished second in the 2022-2023 season.

“I think the way we ended the month was fantastic,” Beard said. ‘Obviously a home draw against Bristol City, followed by a dominant win over Everton in the Continental Cup – it was a tough campaign for us in that competition this year, but I think we used it really well for younger players and getting minutes getting players.

‘And the icing on the cake was the victory at Leigh Sports Village over Manchester United.’

Beard even managed to avoid the so-called manager of the month curse as his side progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Bristol City on Sunday.
