Arne Slot says he backs Tottenham to win a trophy this season because of their exciting style of football under Ange Postecoglou.
The Australian boss has come under intense scrutiny for his tactics this season, with Sky Sports’ Gary Neville slamming his commitment to playing from the back when under pressure.
But Liverpool head coach Slot is a big fan and says Postecoglou’s approach is justified by results such as the 4-3 win against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Thursday evening.
‘I really have to give them credit because when I watch Tottenham… I’m from the Netherlands, but I watch a lot of Match of the Day and David Ginola, Paul Gascoigne, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale Rafael van der Vaart, that they always have been. a certain brand and a certain identity,” says Slot.
‘And I think Postecoglou gives them that completely, and they’re always a joy to watch.
‘Sometimes the results are against them, but they are one of the teams that beat Manchester City, just like us, but not every team beat them the way we did and Tottenham. It is completely deserved in these two situations, where we dominate the whole game, us and Tottenham.”

‘People always talk about trophies, but for me his style of football is so much more important. If they could combine that with winning a trophy it would be so good for football in general. So people stop talking about it being too offensive or whatever. How on earth can you play too much attacking football?!”
All but two players will train for Liverpool on Friday, with only Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley missing. Alexis Mac Allister returns to the competition after a suspension.
