According to reports, Liverpool are on the hunt for Crystal Palace star Cheick Doucoure.

The Reds recently missed out on first-choice targets Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both opted to join Premier League rivals Chelsea last week.

Their decision to join The Blues leaves Jurgen Klopp’s side with few defensive options in midfield, but the Reds boss seems to have devised a plan to fix that.

According to The independentLiverpool have stepped up their hunt for the Selhurst Park star.

The outlet claims the Eagles could demand up to £60 million for the Mali international amid some spending for the south London club.

Wilfried Zaha left for Galatasaray at the start of the window, Michael Olise has had his release clause activated by Chelsea and Eberechi Eze has piqued Spurs’ interest.

Mail Sport revealed last month that Doucoure had emerged as a leading midfield candidate during the club’s recent rebuild.

Doucouré has become a key player for the Eagles in his 12 months at the club and there is a feeling that with the right additions the club could push for a minimal top 10 placement next season.

Doucoure joined Selhurst Park from Lens for £18 million last summer, but it is likely the Eagles will demand more given the ongoing midfield transfer cycle.

The midfielder enjoyed a stellar debut campaign in the Premier League, winning the Crystal Palace FC Player of the Year award just a few months ago.

The Reds have missed out on both Caicedo and Lavia after both players opted to join West London giants Chelsea.

Southampton star and Belgian international Lavia will undergo his medical at Chelsea later today.

The Blues have agreed a £58 million deal with the Saints to sign the Belgium international and hope to close a deal soon.

Lavia spent some time back in Belgium before returning to England for his medical treatment with the West London giants.

Palace have already welcomed a central midfielder in the form of Jefferson Lerma – who joined from Bournemouth on a free transfer – but are likely to re-strengthen if Doucouré is sold.

The Reds underwent a midfield rebuild this summer and have already welcomed the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

With players like Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and possibly Jordan Henderson all leaving the Merseyside club this summer, there is a serious need to strengthen their midfield.
