Liverpool have great admiration for Juventus striker Federico Chiesa and are exploring whether to make a bid for the Italian this week.

Nothing is known at the moment, but the Reds know Chiesa is available and are investigating whether they can bring him to England.

New manager Arne Slot has won his first two Premier League games, but the club has remained quiet on the transfer front as the deadline fast approaches.

After Liverpool agreed a deal with Valencia for goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, they are now considering several options further forward.

Despite having the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez to choose from, Slot appears open to strengthening his front line.

Chiesa is not part of Thiago Motta’s project in Turin and Juventus are actively seeking solutions for the Italy international as they want to sell him.

The 26-year-old player only has one year left on his contract and is unlikely to receive a large fee.

He was reportedly in talks over a move to Barcelona after being left out of Juventus’ squad for their final three pre-season friendlies earlier this month.

Chiesa left Fiorentina for the Old Lady in the summer of 2022 for a fee of over £40m. He spent the previous two seasons there on loan.

He scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 37 games last season and was part of the Italian squad that was eliminated from Euro 2024 in the round of 16.

But after Chiesa was one of a number of first-team players left out by Motta, he is now expected to leave in the coming days.

“Internally we were clear,” Motta said. “We spoke to each of them.

‘We have good players who are used to playing regularly.

‘The club is trying to find solutions for them and, for their own sake and for the sake of everyone, they should also find solutions as soon as possible.’
