Liverpool and Manchester City’s three top scorers have scored exactly the same number of goals as each other as the Premier League title race threatens to hang in the balance.

The Reds are just two points ahead of their rivals in the table – despite having played a game more – highlighting that there is very little separating them.

And figures from statistics experts PopFoot show that Liverpool and City are not separated when it comes to their top-scoring trios.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez scored a total of 42 goals in all competitions in 2023/24.

City continue to stay with them step by step, with Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden also having a total of 42 goals for the season.

Foden pulled City’s front three level on Monday night by scoring just the second hat-trick of his career as Pep Guardiola’s men came from behind to beat Brentford 3-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium.

PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, Randal Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos join the trio of Liverpool and City on 42 – with Mbappe himself scoring 29 – while Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and Joselu are the fourth trio with the same combined tally.

But this figure is still only good enough for joint fourth place on the list of highest scoring trios in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

In the lead at number 44 is Atletico Madrid thanks to Alvaro Morata, Antoine Griezmann and Memphis Depay and Bayern Munich, where Harry Kane, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala score the goals.

Harry Kane (left), Leroy Sane (center) and Jamal Musiala (right) are the joint best-scoring trio in all of Europe, alongside Atletico’s Antoine Griezmann, Alvaro Morata and Memphis Depay with 44 goals

Kane scored 28 of those 44 goals after making a great start in Germany following his summer move from Tottenham.

But despite goals not being an issue for Atletico or Bayern, neither team tops the table in their respective competitions.

Atletico are currently fourth in LaLiga, 10 points behind leaders Real Madrid, while Bayern are two points behind Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

The third best scoring trio in Europe are Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, Hakan Calhanoglu and Marcus Thuram, with 43 goals between them.

Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and John McGinn have scored a total of 34 goals this season

Inter currently sit at the top of Serie A and recorded an important 1-0 win over title rivals Juventus on Sunday to move four points clear with a game in hand.

Another Premier League trio sneaks into the top 10 in the form of Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and John McGinn for Aston Villa.

They scored 34 goals between them to take the Midlands club into the top four of the Premier League, and sit joint ninth in the table alongside RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda, Benjamin Sesko and Xavi Simons.

They are just below Serhou Guirassy, Deniz Undav and Chris Fuhrich from Stuttgart, who scored 39 goals, taking eighth place for the German team.
