Former One Direction member Liam Payne has died at the age of 31, local media report.

The pop star is said to have fallen from the roof of a hotel in Buenos Aires in the presence of witnesses.

Emergency services are still believed to be on site outside the CasaSur Palmero Hotel as of Wednesday evening.

Payne was part of the original line-up of the world-famous boy band, formed in 2010, alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry Styles.

His death came just hours after he posed for a photo with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy on Snapchat.

He is survived by a son, Bear, born from his relationship with Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Tweedy in 2017.

Local police confirmed the death of Liam Payne, 31, at the hotel in Buenos Aires on Wednesday afternoon

The 31-year-old British musician was found dead after falling from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room, police said this evening.

In a statement, the capital’s police said they were called to the hotel in the capital’s leafy Palermo district where they were informed of an “aggressive man who may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol.”

Emergency workers confirmed the death of the singer, who was reportedly found in the hotel courtyard.

“Our hearts are absolutely broken and we wish much light and strength for his family and loved ones,” MTV’s Latin American arm wrote in a post on social media platform X.
