Following landslides at more than a dozen places in Ramban district on Wednesday, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains blocked, officials said on Tuesday. An official added that road clearance work has also been hampered by the third consecutive day of rain. Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) is blocked due to landslides/mudslides/shooting stones (from hills) at Dalwas, Peerha, near Peerha Tunnel, Mehad-Cafetaria, Jaiswal Bridge, Trishul Morh, Seri , T2, Monkey Morh, Mom Passi, Gangroo, Hingni Marog, Kishtwari Pather, Shalghari Rampari,Tablea and Chamalwas,” a traffic department spokesperson said. Traffic on the 270 km highway was also suspended around 9.30 am on Monday and Tuesday following landslides triggered by heavy rains in Dalwas, Mehad-Cafetaria, Chamalwas, Shalgadi and Gangroo.
The deadlock over seat-sharing in Uttar Pradesh for the 2024 general elections was resolved after the Congress and Samajwadi Party announced a seat-sharing deal on Wednesday. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav called it a harmonious alliance and congratulated the leaders of both parties. In Lucknow, leaders of the two parties announced that the Samajwadi Party will contest the elections with 63 seats and the Congress with 17 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
