BJP has welcomed the Delhi court’s decision sending Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to the Enforcement Directorate in an excise-related money laundering case. BJP said the “protagonist of the crime” has finally been brought to justice. Addressing members of the press, Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani said that countrymen are now convinced that no one is above the law. “If anything, the news that the court has remanded him in custody has convinced the country that no one is above the law. The kingpin of the crime, Arvind Kejriwal, has finally been brought to justice,” she said.
Commenting on a legislation that challenged the appointment of election commissioners under a 2023 law, the Supreme Court on Friday said: “Suspension of legislation pending consideration is an exception and not the rule.” The Supreme Court further noted that interference in the selection of election commissioners will lead to chaos and may lead to constitutional collapse.
It has been about a week since Nayab Singh Saini took oath as the new Chief Minister of Haryana following the resignation of Manohar Lal Khattar. On Friday, days after CM Saini expanded his Cabinet, the Haryana Council of Ministers was allotted portfolios. CM Saini kept the Home Ministry for himself. The portfolios were allotted late on Friday evening, a PTI report said. According to a government order, CM Nayab Singh Saini will retain the departments of Home Affairs, Revenue and Disaster Management, Youth Empowerment, Information and Public Relations and Languages and Culture, Mines and Geology and Foreign Cooperation.
