LIVE: Delhi CM Kejriwal likely to appear in court if ED custody ends

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s detention will end today and the probe agency probing the alleged irregularities in liquor policy is likely to produce him in court. On March 21, Kejriwal was arrested and since then he has been running his government from the ED lock-up. The Rose Avenue court had extended his detention by four days until April 1. Opposition leaders who took part in a mega rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday afternoon demanded the release of Kejriwal and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who were arrested by the ED in January in a separate case.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi rejected suggestions that the electoral bonds issue caused a setback for his government and declared on Sunday that those who ‘dance’ on the issue will repent. He added that no system is perfect and any shortcomings can be improved. “Tell me what we have done so that I should see it as a setback? I firmly believe that those who dance about it (bond details) and are proud of it will convert,” he told Thanthi TV in an interview when asked if the details about electoral bonds have caused a setback for the ruling BJP.

Referring to the Pannun assassination plot, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti said a “red line” should not be crossed and “no country” or “no government official” should be involved in the murder of a foreigner. Garcetti, in an interview with news agency ANI, praised the Indian government for doing “everything that is asked”. “I think it is strong, but so far everything that has been asked of the Indian government has been done. And I would say vice versa. When there are allegations (from) the other side, we take it incredibly seriously,” Garcetti said.
