Kate Middleton latest news: Princess WILL attend Trooping the Colour after cancer diagnosis as Royal give update on health battle in moving new statement

Social media users send Kate their best wishes

The Princess of Wales has had an extremely tough year so far, returning to the public eye four months after starting chemotherapy treatment.

Kate was diagnosed with cancer in February and is resting at home in Windsor with the help of her husband Prince William and the Middleton family.

The mother of three appealed for time, space and privacy for her family when she revealed on March 22 that she was being treated for an unknown form of cancer.

This is the story of how the princess recovers outside the private eye.

Kate, 42, will be on hand to ensure George, 10, Charlotte, nine, and Louis, six, enjoy the family day out to celebrate their grandfather’s birthday – and her presence means they won’t be in the carriage procession without either of their parents.

Their mother’s presence will also be reassuring for the youngsters as they watch the flight fly by from the balcony of Buckingham Palace – where Prince Louis famously covered his ears to block out the noise in 2022.

While the day marks the British sovereign’s official birthday and shows off military precision, the children of the Prince and Princess of Wales usually steal the show with their playful antics.

Last year he was particularly expressive on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, making faces and playing to the camera.

Despite more than 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses, 400 musicians and a flyover of 70 planes, Louis was the star of the historic day.

Rishi Sunak ‘delighted’ the Princess of Wales is attending Trooping the Colour

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has wished the Princess of Wales well on social media.

Why did Kate decide to attend Trooping the Colour?

Sources have suggested that, as the princess herself said in her post, she enjoys spending personal time on the things that give her energy and positivity, and that connecting with nature is something that continues to support her recovery.

It is thought that the princess chose to step back into the public spotlight for her first public appearance at Trooping because family is so important to her and she wanted to be there to support husband and children.

Her return to work is considered one of the first steps to regain her strength.

What events might Kate attend in the future?

While her presence at Trooping the Color will undoubtedly be a ‘key moment’, it is strongly emphasized that this should not be seen as a return to a full schedule of public engagements.

As Kensington Palace said in March, the Princess may be keen to attend events over the summer, as and when she is able, with the support and guidance of her medical team.

Any future engagements will be announced closer to that time, although the Mail understands Kate will not be attending Monday’s Order of the Garter ceremony or Royal Ascot next week.

However, it is clear that the princess is feeling well enough to start working a bit from home and has been holding meetings in Windsor.

Princess of Wales releases new photo

To mark the news, Kensington Palace also released a stunning new portrait of the princess, taken in Windsor this week by Matt Porteous, which shows her looking good and in a thoughtful mood.

The photo was taken earlier this week by Mr Porteous, a favorite private photographer of the couple, at the Windsor estate.

It shows Kate in casual clothes: jeans, a beige linen blazer and trainers, while her wedding and engagement rings stare wistfully into the distance but with an air of positivity.

STRICT EMBARGO UNTIL JUNE 14 6pm BST - An update on The Princess of Wales

‘I have been overwhelmed by all the lovely messages of support and encouragement over the past few months.

‘It really has made a world of difference to William and me and helped us both through the tougher times.

‘I’m making good progress, but as anyone undergoing chemotherapy knows, there are good days and bad days.

‘On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you need to rest your body. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of your good feelings.

‘My treatment is still ongoing and will last a few more months. On the days when I feel well enough, it’s a joy to get busy with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, and start some work from home.

‘I’m looking forward to attending the King’s Birthday Parade with my family this weekend and hope to take part in some public performances this summer, but I also know I’m not out of the woods yet.

‘I’m learning to be patient, especially when it comes to uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body and allowing myself to take some much needed time to heal.

“Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who so courageously shared your stories with me.”
