Little Teneille: Shattered parents of little girl killed in a freak backyard accident make a heartbreaking admission about the tragedy

The heartbroken family of a 19-month-old toddler who died when a meter-high brick wall collapsed on top of her have revealed they blame themselves for the freak accident.

Little Teneille was crushed under a pile of rocks in the backyard of her home in Quairading, 165 kilometers west of Perth, on January 2 while playing chase with her brother.

Her devastated parents Anthony Thorne and Lucinda Winmar heard a loud crash and then a scream for help, but it was too late.

“The bricks hit the living room wall at the side of the house and then it was quiet,” Mr Thorne said. The Western Australia.

Teneille had run around the side of the house while her brother Kallum chased her.

Mr Thorne said: ‘All I heard was my son shouting, “Help, help, help”, and by the time I got there Lucinda was there… lifting stones from Teneille.’

Her father lifted her into his arms and desperately tried to find a heartbeat before rushing the toddler to hospital.

“They put her on the bed and all I heard them say was, ‘No sign of life, 19-month-old girl,’” he said.

The family admitted that the house is very dilapidated, but due to the ongoing rental crisis in the country, they were forced to live there after being offered it by a relative.

The couple had applied for dozens of rental properties but couldn’t secure any, so when the house came they had to take it.

“Some days we feel like we sacrificed our daughter for a roof, we often blame ourselves,” he said.

The family has since moved to Kwinana, 40 kilometers south of Perth.
