Little Brax and his mum got in their Hyundai Getz at 3am. Moments later the four-year-old was killed in a mysterious smash – leaving his shattered family with two burning questions
The family of a little boy killed in a horrific car crash in Sydney’s west has no idea how the crash happened, or why he and his mother were traveling at 3am.
Emergency services rushed to Christie Street in St Marys in the early hours last Friday after a Hyundai Getz struck a parked truck and trailer.
Jamielee Matthews, 38, and her four-year-old son Brax Grover had to be extricated from the wreckage by first responders before being taken to hospital in critical conditions.
Brax lost his fight for life hours later, just a few weeks before his fifth birthday, just months after his grandfather’s death.
Five days later, he is remembered as a “playful, loving little boy who loved Paw Patrol,” while his family mourns “a life taken far too soon.”
Brax’s aunt Simone Gittoes told Daily Mail Australia that she had a Go finance me fundraiser to raise $7,000 to give her nephew “the send-off he deserves.”

“We want to give him a brilliant send-off, he has already missed so much,” she said.
“He hasn’t been able to go to school or daycare, he hasn’t been able to make friends, he hasn’t been able to play football, he’s been deprived of everything that children should do.”
Ms Gittoes, the partner of Brax’s uncle Daniel, said the family remains in the dark about the extent of Ms Matthews’ injuries and why the mother and son were on the road at 3am.
“I believe she’s still in the hospital. We have tried to get some information about her condition but we don’t know anything at this point,” Ms Gittoes said.
‘We don’t know why they were in the car at that time of the morning. I know some information, but I don’t feel free to step on any toes.’
“But Brax shouldn’t have been outside at that time.”
Ms Gittoes said Brax’s father Mark and the extended family are “coping as best they can” with the devastating loss.
It is the second death in the family in recent months.
“Mark is doing as well as you would expect, it’s hit him hard, it’s hit us all hard to be honest,” Ms Gittoes said.
“My partner’s family just lost their dad (Brax’s grandfather) after Christmas, he had cancer and it hit quite hard and we are still coming to terms with that loss,” she said.

Brax Glover was a few weeks shy of his fifth birthday when he died
The fundraiser raised more than $3,500 in four days.
“Brax was going to be five in a few weeks, he was such a happy, smart boy who loved playing with his toys, had his favorite stuffed animals and loved the Paw Patrol,” the page reads.
“He was loved by so many.
‘Brax was taken from us far too soon, his life was cut too short. He didn’t get the chance to go to school, play football or make lifelong friends.
A makeshift memorial has been set up at the crash site by Brax’s uncle, where loved ones and community members leave teddy bears and flowers to pay their respects.
“Daniel has made a little memorial for Brazzy so everyone in the family goes there,” Mrs Gittoes said.
A crime scene was established and forensically examined by specialist officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
The investigation into the crash continues.
