Lisa Wilkinson’s surprising connection to comedian and Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser

Lisa Wilkinson has revealed her close friendship with Nikki Glaser.

The American comedian, who presented the Golden Globes on Sunday evening, and the former star of The Project are good friends, Wilkinson said on Tuesday.

The 65-year-old shared a selfie of herself cuddling with the 40-year-old funny woman.

“So proud of my kicka**e buddy, the brilliant @nikkiglaser who absolutely killed it last night as the first female solo host of the Golden Globes,” Lisa wrote.

She then explained that the couple met “a billion years ago through her good friend Andy Lee” while she and Karl Stefanovic were in New York for the Today show.

“We found ourselves late one night at the legendary Comedy Club in Greenwich Village. Nikki completely blew the house away every time she took the stage, and the rest is history as her career has continued to rise,” said Lisa.

She went on to join Nikki’s upcoming Australian tour, the Alive and Unwell stand-up tour, which kicks off in Australia and New Zealand in July.

“Hurry, because those tickets won’t last long… and I promise you, this will be the best night out you’ll ever have!” Lisa promised.

It comes after Lisa shared a look back at her life over the past few years as she faces new horizons.

The television star created a video on Instagram on Sunday with moments from 2022, now that her contract with Channel Ten expires.

“Now that my time at Channel Ten has officially come to an end (and the last few years have been quite challenging), there have still been plenty of good times,” she wrote in her caption.

“Here’s to 2025 and new beginnings,” the 65-year-old added.

Lisa’s photos include glimpses of her time at The Project, which she left in November 2022.

She also beamed as she took a sweet selfie with former co-star Carrie Bickmore, who has also since left The Project, and cuddled up with Hamish Macdonald.

After two years of gardening, furloughs to the tune of $1.7 million a year, Wilkinson‘s time at Channel Ten ended with a whimper over the Christmas holidays.

Her multi-year contract expired on New Year’s Eve and was not renewed.

Wilkinson had joined the network in 2018 following an infamous pay dispute at Nine when she discovered her Today co-host Karl Stefanovic was earning significantly more than her.

Everything went well when she signed a new contract with Ten in 2021.

But just a year later, she stepped down as host of The Project – her only on-air role – citing the toll of “ruthless, targeted” media reporting.

In the two years since she disappeared from our screens, she has continued to collect a monthly salary from Ten, the forgotten child of commercial TV, despite cuts across the industry.

Wilkinson has slowly built up her public image since then.

The controversial television star has been quietly seen at a handful of red carpet events in recent months, and last year he attended a trendy influencer party.

“We found ourselves late one night at the legendary Comedy Club in Greenwich Village. Every time she took the stage, Nikki completely blew the house away, and the rest is history as her career has continued to soar,” said Lisa

She surprised guests at the launch of the new GRO+ Advanced Hair Serum from wellness brand Vegamour at Bondi Icebergs, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The star looked “relaxed and happy” as she mingled with celebrity guests including Simone Holtznagel and Amy Castano.

It was the latest in a series of appearances in an attempt for Wilkinson to ‘return to the Sydney social scene’, the publication claims.

In August, Lisa was all smiles on the red carpet at the opening night of Sunset Boulevard in Sydney.

The controversial television star appeared in good spirits as she made a glamorous entrance to the Sydney Opera House.

She also mingled with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the Cauliflower Club rugby lunch at the end of August.

In March Wilkinson stepped out for the opening night of & Juliet in Sydney.

It follows news that Lisa wants to return to TV screens after months of inactivity and five dull weeks spent in a courtroom, sources say.

The Channel 10 star and former darling of breakfast TV is keen to do more ‘blockbuster interviews’ again in the new year, friends told the Weekend Australian.

Wilkinson quit The Project in November 2022 and despite remaining on Ten’s payroll until the end of 2024, she has not appeared on the channel for more than a year.

Despite her long hiatus from the network, Wilkinson has remained in the public eye through her role in a highly publicized defamation lawsuit.

She was involved in a case with Bruce Lehrmann who sued Network 10 and Wilkinson over an interview with Brittany Higgins that aired on The Project and online.

The defamation case took place in court in the last five weeks of the court’s term. Judge Lee reserved his decision in this case.

Friends of Wilkinson say her court appearances have worked to her advantage by giving the TV star ‘a constant stream of publicity’.

“Yes, she’s been off air for a while, but I don’t think anyone has forgotten her,” former Seven and Nine director Peter Meakin told the channel. Weekend Australian.

“I’m sure her loyal followers will remain loyal.”

Network Ten claims they are in talks to develop ‘other projects’ with Wilkinson.
