Lisa Wilkinson has unveiled a dramatic hair transformation to herald a ‘new beginning’ as tongues continue to wag and the veteran broadcaster is set to make a long-awaited return to television screens.

The former host of The Project chose to chop off her famous locks on Monday and embrace a look she hasn’t seen in years.

The 64-year-old took to Instagram to tease her brand new hairstyle with her 352,044 followers, with the former Network 10 star taking notice of her former employer, Channel Nine, in more ways than one.

The frame shows Lisa taking a cheeky selfie in a salon as a stylist with ‘magic hands’ expertly curls her freshly cut, shaggy locks which are now shoulder length.

Lisa’s comments left no doubt that the veteran television star was very pleased with the results.

“Good riddance,” Lisa announced proudly next to the image.

“Don’t think I’ve had it this short since the early Today show years. It feels so good,” she continued, before adding the hashtags #shorthairdontcare and #newbeginnings.

Lisa, who was previously signed to Network 10, chose to entrust her transformation to Channel Nine stylist Maria Maree Maree.

It comes after news that Lisa wants to return to TV screens.

Wilkinson quit The Project in November 2022 and despite remaining on Ten's payroll until the end of 2024, she has not appeared on the channel since.

Despite her long hiatus from the network, Wilkinson has remained in the public eye through her role in a highly publicized defamation lawsuit.

Friends of Wilkinson say her court appearances worked to her advantage by giving the TV star ‘a constant stream of publicity’.

“Yes, she’s been off air for a while, but I don’t think anyone has forgotten her,” former Seven and Nine director Peter Meakin told the Weekend Australian.

“I’m sure her loyal followers will remain loyal.”
