Lisa Snowdon reveals a designer in Milan told her to ‘lose weight’ at the peak of her modelling career: ‘It didn’t sit well with me’
Lisa Snowdon has revealed that a fashion designer once told her to ‘lose weight’ before a show in Milan.
The fashion model, 51, spoke about how the industry has changed over the years with fashion designer Amanda Wakeley on her StyleDNA podcast.
Lisa began by saying, “It’s changed in a good way, but it’s still not where it needs to be. It’s more inclusive, less dirty, less manipulative, but I’m sure there are still things you don’t know about.
“I felt a lot of pressure in Paris to socialize and date clients, you know rich old men, that never suited me. I would always make up some elaborate excuse. It was an agency.
Speaking about working with Amanda in the past, Lisa added: ‘Not once did you look at me and say your figure wasn’t going to work, you were so encouraging, enthusiastic and accepting of the female body.

‘They used to schedule me for jobs and then cancel me because I was too curvy.’
When Amanda pointed out that Lisa had a ‘laundry belly’ when they met, Lisa replied: ‘Back then I wasn’t even doing anything, I wasn’t even exercising, I just had this amazing six pack.
But in Milan they measured me and told me that I had to lose weight. I didn’t really like it.’
Lisa ended up with a successful career as a fashion model, regardless of this setback.
She got her big break at the age of 22, modeling The Ultrabra by Gossard in 1994, and was quickly snapped up by various swimwear brands.
She maintained a successful career throughout the 1990s and 2000s, eventually becoming the face of Britain’s Next Top Model in 2006 as the British counterpart to supermodel Tyra Banks.

Elsewhere, Lisa – who has remained open about her fertility struggles – opened up about not having children.
She suffered a devastating miscarriage live on air after being violently attacked by an abusive ex-boyfriend and admitted she suffered from the thought that the devastating outcome could be ‘punishment’ for an abortion she had in her late 20s.
She said: “Society, if you don’t follow the traditional path, is a challenge. There’s a lot of negativity about it, a lot of questions, a lot of people don’t understand.
“You never know what happens behind closed doors and someone’s story.” We just need to be nicer to each other and look at the bigger picture.’
