Lisa Marie Presley’s last two Instagram posts honored her late son Benjamin Keough, who tragically died by suicide in 2020 at the age of 27.
Before his own shocking death on Thursday at the age of 54, Presley shared screenshots in August of an essay he had written for PEOPLE in honor of National Grief Awareness Day.
Lisa’s heartbreaking post about pain was preceded by an image she shared in July, which showed her and Benjamin’s feet resting next to each other while sporting matching tattoos.

‘Hello’, Lisa began, captioning the screenshots of his essay on mourning. ‘In honor of it being National Grief Awareness Day, I wrote an essay on Grief which was posted today on @people. Thought I’d post it here in the hope that anyone who needs to hear all of this will help out in some way.

Elvis Presley’s only son wrote candidly of death as “a part of life whether we like it or not” and went on to declare that “grief doesn’t stop or go away in any sense.”
Lisa Marie added: “Grief is something you will have to carry with you for the rest of your life, despite what certain people or our culture would have us believe. You don’t ‘get over it’, you don’t ‘move on’, period.’

The singer-songwriter will rest at Graceland, her father’s iconic Memphis mansion.
She will be buried next to her son Benjamin in the family cemetery.
Lisa Marie’s death came just four days after she returned to the sprawling Tennessee estate on what would have been the 88th birthday of her father, a rock legend.
Presley previously revealed how the mansion, which she inherited when Elvis died, was a haunted place for her, saying it reminded her of “mortality.”
Her beloved girls: Lisa Marie is survived by her eldest daughter, Riley Keough, 33, and her 14-year-old twin girls, Harper and Finley.
Lisa Marie went into cardiac arrest Thursday morning and was rushed to West Hills Hospital in Los Angeles, where she later passed away.
Detailing the “relentless grief” that plagued her after Benjamin’s death, Lisa Marie wrote in her essay for People: “I’ve dealt with death, grief and loss since the age of nine.
“I’ve had more than anyone in my life and somehow, I’ve made it this far. But this, the death of my beautiful, beautiful son?
‘The sweetest, most amazing being I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing, who made me feel so honored every day to be her mother?’
She added: “Who was so much like his grandfather on so many levels that it really freaked me out?
‘Which made me care for him even more than I naturally would have? No. Just no… no no no no…’
