Last month, Jennifer sat down with Quinta Brunson from Abbott Elementary for a conversation Variety‘s Actors on Actors and reminisced about the sitcom.
“Lisa Kudrow, by the way, hated it when the audience laughed…” the 55-year-old claimed.
‘She’d be like, “I’m not done yet! It’s not that funny!”‘
Jennifer also got emotional as she reminisced about the Friends premiere day she spent with the late Matthew Perry, just ahead of the show’s 30th anniversary.
“It’s so strange to think it’s already 30 years old,” the Murder Mystery actress mused.
‘Because I remember the day the show was going to premiere on television, on NBC. Matthew Perry and I were having lunch somewhere and we knew Lisa was going to dye her hair.
“So we ran into the salon, and I sneaked up on her — she was in the sink — and I grabbed the nozzle from the guy who was going to do it and just started washing her hair. It absolutely blew up, which was unfortunate.”

Reflecting on her mindset during that taping, the Friends alum added: ‘I was like, ‘Okay, take it easy. It’s not that funny. And there’s more to say!”
The iconic series aired for 10 seasons, from 1994 to 2004. Jennifer said: “The excitement we felt feels like it was yesterday.”
She also admitted that the lack of social media helped the cast (which also includes David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox and Matt LeBlanc) bond more closely.
“It was the ’90s and 2000s, and we were lucky that there was no social media or the internet, so we were isolated and protected,” Jennifer told Quinta.
‘You weren’t confronted with all the things people would throw at you and tear you apart or whatever. It was a dreamy time.
“It was really nostalgic,” the Picture Perfect star said. “It was a really innocent time, where we could just move around the world a lot easier. Even though it became a big thing, we could still be together and support each other. But again, there were no phones. It’s not like there’s a hundred screens telling you what it is.”
September 22 marks 30 years since the series premiered, just one month before Matthew’s death.
The 17 Again actor was 54 when he was found dead in his Los Angeles home on October 28. An autopsy revealed he died from acute effects of ketamine.

The report also states that Matthew drowned in “the hot part of his pool,” but that this was a secondary factor in his death.
Two weeks after the Numb star passed away, Lisa reflected on the beginnings of Friends in a touching tribute on Instagram.
“I shot the pilot, Friends Like Us, and we were at the NBC Upfronts,” she wrote. “Then…you suggested we play poker AND made it so much fun that we bonded in the first place. Thank you for that.”
Lisa continued, “Thank you for making me laugh so hard at something you said, that my muscles ached and tears streamed down my face EVERY DAY. Thank you for being so open-hearted in a six-way relationship that required compromise. And a lot of ‘talking.'”
Two weeks after Matthew Perry passed away in October, the comedian paid tribute to her old pal: “The pilot, Friends Like Us, got picked up and we were at the NBC Upfronts right away. Then… You suggested we play poker AND made it so much fun as we bonded initially. Thank you for that.”

The Emmy winner touched on her costar’s struggle with addiction, adding, “Thank you for showing up to work when you were sick and being absolutely brilliant. Thank you for the best 10 years anyone can have. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for all I’ve learned about GRACE and LOVE from knowing you. Thank you for the time I got to spend with you, Matthew.”
When Matthew died, Los Angeles police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his overdose.
And just last month, a law enforcement insider reported that the investigation is “nearly complete” and that police believe “multiple people” should be charged.
The source added that the US Attorney’s Office will make the official decision on whether or not to file charges.
However, the US Attorney’s Office responded with “no comment.”
