Lisa Kudrow blasts Tom Hanks’ film Here as ‘endorsement for AI’

Lisa Kudrow strongly criticized Tom Hanks’ new film Here.

The 61-year-old actress condemned the use of digital aging and said his new fantasy drama film was an “endorsement for AI.”

The film, released on October 25, reunited Hanks with his Forrest Gump co-star Robin Wright in a multi-generational story that depicted the cast as their characters across different time periods.

This comes after the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes called for efforts to regulate the technology.

The Friends star — who opened up about the “hard work” that went into maintaining the six-way relationship between her costars on the beloved sitcom — appeared on a recent episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast and condemned Hank and director Robert Zemeckis ‘ wipe.

“They shot it, and they were able to actually shoot the scene and then watch it as a younger person, and it’s ready for them to see,” she said on the podcast.

“And all I got from that was, this is a show of support for AI and oh, my God. It’s not like, “Oh, it’s going to ruin everything,” but what’s left? Forget actors, what about emerging actors? It’s just about permits and recycling.”

Kudrow continued, “Leaving that entirely aside, what work will there be for man? What then?

‘There will be some kind of livelihood for the people, so you don’t have to work? How can it ever be enough?’

Last year, ahead of the film’s premiere, Hanks previously discussed technology use and discussed the possibilities of AI.

‘What is a bona fide possibility right now, if I wanted to, [is] “I could get together and pitch a series of seven films that I would star in, where I would be 32 years old from now until the kingdom came,” he said on The Adam Buxton Podcast.

“Anyone can now recreate themselves at any age through AI or deep-fake technology,” he continued.

“I could get hit by a bus tomorrow and that’s all, but my performances can go on and on,” he said.

“Aside from realizing it was done by AI or deepfake, there’s nothing that’s going to tell you that it’s not about me and me alone, and that it’s going to have some degree of lifelike quality.”
