Lisa Curry reveals that she still feels ‘unimaginable’ grief over the loss of daughter Jaimi

Lisa Curry has revealed that three years after her death she is still struggling with the loss of her daughter.

The 60-year-old posted to Instagram on Friday, sharing a sweet photo of herself next to Jaimi.

“Get up, get dressed, show up and do what you have to do no matter how hard it is,” she wrote in the caption.

“Today I spoke at the Nurses & Midwives Wellness Conference in Melbourne. My topic was Showing Hope – for strength and navigating a crisis.

“A very difficult subject for me, but every time I speak it gets a little bit easier. It’s still hard, and there were a lot of tears, but I knew I was safe in this conference and could be myself,” she continued.

“I know I’m not the only one walking this unimaginable path. Grief is a process we have to go through, but over time, healing begins to take place. At least I can smile again.

“But I’m exhausted and my body hurts. I feel like I’m in a hole and just can’t get out. But every day the brave face continues and I keep going.

“I have to remind myself: the crack is where the light begins to shine through. You don’t know how strong you are until that’s the only choice you have.’

In November, Lisa released a balloon carrying Jaimi’s ashes on top of Mount Kosciuszko, two years after the 33-year-old’s tragic death.

“I’m exhausted and my body hurts. I feel like I’m in a hole and just can’t get out. But every day the brave face moves on and I keep going,” she wrote

The retired Olympic swimmer announced she had climbed Australia’s tallest mountain and shared a gallery of photos showing the treacherous expedition.

“I needed something to refocus and get out of bed, but my main goal was to take my daughter’s ashes to the top of Mt Kosciuszko,” she wrote on Instagram.

The trip, which had been postponed several times due to Covid restrictions, proved to be a huge challenge for the Commonwealth Games gold medalist.

“I can honestly say it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. My beautiful friend Christine never left my side for which I was very grateful. The water is my comfort zone, not mountains,” she explained.

‘The conditions were very challenging, lots of snow, ice, rain, sleet, baby hail (sago), winds of 60-100 km/h, we had it all. Once we left, we were committed. No way back. Step-by-step.’

Once at the top of the mountain, Lisa released a small pink balloon containing Jaimi’s ashes and dried flowers from her funeral.

“An overwhelming sense of achievement and emotional dread of what I was about to do. The wind was extreme and took the balloon quickly, but it landed not far away in the snow, so [my friend] Glenn picked it up and let it go,” she wrote.

“I honor our Jaimi by taking her ashes and dried flower petals from her funeral to amazing places in the country and the world. This spot atop Mt Kosciusko is the closest to heaven I could get, so it made a lot of sense to me. Everyone has their own way of honoring those who are special to them,” she continued.

Lisa concluded her post with a touching tribute to her beloved Jaimi: “Fly pretty beautiful angel. Never forget.’

Jaimi, Lisa’s eldest daughter with ex-husband Grant Kenny, passed away in September 2020 after an 18-year battle with alcoholism and anorexia.

Lisa and Grant Kenny married in 1984, divorced in 2009 and welcomed three children during their marriage together: son Jett, 28, and daughters Morgan, 31, and Jaimi.

Jaimi passed away on September 14, 2020 at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Announcing the sad news on social media, Lisa wrote: “Our beautiful daughter Jaimi lost her battle with a long illness and passed away peacefully in hospital yesterday morning with her loving family by her side.”
