Lions look Super Bowl-ready with 34-31 win over rival Packers after gutsy late call by coach Dan Campbell

The Detroit Lions defense may have been decimated by injuries, but coach Dan Campbell’s team proved it remains a Super Bowl contender after beating the rival Green Bay Packers 34-31 on kicker Jake Bates’ final field goal.

The win pushes Detroit’s franchise-record winning streak to 11. The Lions are now 12-1, while the Packers fall to 9-4 on the season.

Campbell had a chance to make the winning field goal with almost a minute remaining, but instead opted for a fourth-down conversion attempt at the Green Bay 21-yard line. Remarkably, even though quarterback Jared Goff slipped while handing the ball to running back David Montgomery, the Lions were still able to gain seven yards for the first down.

Just as importantly, the bold call allowed the Packers to kill the rest of the clock, denying Green Bay the chance to win the game with a Hail Mary pass.
