Lionel Messi scores two stunning goals for Argentina in World Cup qualifying win over Peru – as Inter Miami star returns to top form after recent muscle tissue injury

Lionel Messi was back to his devastating best as he scored twice to lead Argentina to a 2-0 win over Peru in World Cup qualifying on Tuesday night.

The Inter Miami star scored twice in the first half – both stunning left-footed strikes from the edge of the penalty area – as his side strengthened their position at top spot in South American qualifying.

The 36-year-old was recently sidelined for Inter Miami due to a scar tissue problem but now appears to be back to his best.

He even had a goal for his hat-trick, rightly disallowed for offside, but that required a VAR check.
