Lionel Messi was at his quietest since joining Inter Miami, but his brilliance was still on display with another goal and a moment that set Twitter on fire.

During Charlotte’s 4-0 defeat in the League Cup quarter-final, Messi danced past two defenders with ease, stunning them so that they collided.

Naturally, the reactions both in the DRV PNK Stadium and on social media were astonishing.

“Looks like he’s playing in the backyard with his dog and wasting his time in that competition,” one X user wrote.

“Playing 70% of his abilities and still making fun of MLS defenders,” another tweeted in response to the video.

Messi allowed Josef Martinez to take an early penalty to put the Storks ahead 1-0 vs. Charlotte.

Robert Taylor added a second in the 32nd minute before Charlotte’s Adilson Malanda scored an own goal in the 78th minute from a cross intended for Messi.

The 36-year-old Argentine, who has not lost since arriving in South Florida last month, scored Miami’s final goal in the 86th minute.

Miami now moves on to Philadelphia after the Union defeated La Liga MX’s Queretaro 2-1 on Friday night.

Incredibly, Messi has yet to play in MLS. As of now, his scheduled league debut is August 26 vs. New York Red Bulls.
