Lindsay Shiver’s grandfather says her family is ‘torn’ over her arrest in the Bahamas for ‘conspiring to kill her estranged footballer husband’ Robert – who ‘helped pay her $100,000 bail’

The family of an ex-beauty pageant queen has expressed their disappointment following her arrest in the Bahamas over the alleged murder plot against her husband.

Lindsay Shiver, 36, is charged with conspiracy to kill ex-Auburn footballer Robert Shiver, 38, with the help of her alleged lover Terrance Bethel, 28, and ‘hired killer’ Faron Newbold, 29.

The 36-year-old was granted $100,000 bail and ordered to remain in the Bahamas, while Bethel and Newbold were given $20,000 bail and a curfew. The three were taken to Fox Hill Prison in Nassau.

Despite the alleged plot, it has been revealed that her estranged husband helped her and her accused accomplices escape from the Caribbean prison, according to the Bahamas Court News.

Upon hearing the news, Lindsay’s grandfather, Tom Shirley, told the New York Post he was “sad, shocked and disappointed.”

“It just tore us apart. It’s just a shame, a crying shame, for Robert and the kids and everyone else,” Shirely told the outlet on Wednesday.

“I know Lindsay or I thought so and I don’t know what could have happened, but something did.”

Shirley described Lindsay, Robert and their three children as the “ideal family” when they lived in their $2.5 million mansion in Thomasville Georgia.

The pair, who own a luxury vacation home in the Bahamas, often traveled by private jet – the Caribbean destination now marred by the shock arrest.

“It’s hard to believe because they’re such a lovely couple and family,” Shirely said of the Shivers.

The family was torn apart on April 5 when Robert filed for divorce, accusing her of cheating on him. While Lindsay filed disturbing allegations of violence against her in Thomas County Superior Court.

She also claimed that Robert had tried to cut her off from his money. Shirley, appalled by the allegations, said he was very close to the family and had seen no signs of domestic violence.

‘I never saw it. They were just a nice couple. I never knew anything else, in fact it’s a surprise to me that this all came out and was very disappointing,” he said.

“I don’t know if she’s gone crazy or something. Don’t know.’

Despite the turmoil the couple faced in their personal relationship, Shirley claimed that Robert talked to prosecutors about Lindsay, leading to her being released on bail.

Lindsay, Bethel and Newbold were held at Fox Hill Prison in Nassau before the court allowed the mother of three to be released on $100,000 bail, reportedly paid by Robert.

According to the Bahamas Court News, she agreed to wear an ankle bracelet and remain in the Caribbean until her Oct. 5 appearance.

Bethel and Newbold also agreed to wear tracking devices, as part of their bail conditions.

The three alleged conspirators will also have to hand in their travel documents and will not be allowed to contact Robert.

They will have to report to Marsh Harbor Police Station three times a week, the court also ruled.

Robert had been at the couple’s mansion with his children when he was alerted to the bizarre murder-for-hire plot.

The father-of-three told the New York Post he struggled with the allegations and has yet to tell his children about their mother’s arrest.

My kids don’t know everything yet. I’m going to try to tell them in the next few days. They’re young,’ he said.

The former football player has also requested that any alimony be paid to Lindsay.

Shiver was arrested after Bahamian police investigated a burglary at a local bar on July 16, where they reportedly came across incriminating WhatsApp messages detailing a suspect’s plan.

She and Bethel allegedly conspired to hire an assassin, Newbold, to kill her husband, who filed for divorce after discovering their affair.

Police targeted and arrested the three on the island of Guana last week, and they were flown under custody to the capital, Nassau, as the country has only one prison.

Four days after the plot was discovered, the Georgia couple was scheduled to meet in Thomas County Superior Court on July 20, where they filed counterclaims against each other in a hostile custody battle.

Accusing her of “adulterous conduct,” Lindsay had responded with accusations of “physical and mental brutality.”

She also claimed her affair took place at a time of separation for the couple and was “legally approved by the husband” according to court documents.

Her attorney claimed in the filing that Robert was abusive, writing in a restraining order against him, “(Lindsay) feels unsafe in the marital home and has installed locks on the interior doors of the home for protection.”

“(Robert) assaulted the wife several times at home in front of the children, not only physically but also mentally and emotionally,” the indictment said.
