Lindsay, who recently turned 38, reprises her role as Anna Coleman, while Jamie, 65, reprises her role as Tess in the sequel to the 2003 body-swapped comedy.

While plot details are still being kept under wraps, Lindsay confirmed to Good Morning America that her character will have a daughter in the new film, and said she had to take guitar lessons to get into character.

“Well, I can’t say much about it, but I take guitar lessons and I have a daughter in the movie,” she said.

“It’s going to be a real Freaky Friday. Much freakier than you would expect.”

What the Mean Girls star is enjoying most is the chance to work with her mother Jamie again.

“It’s fantastic,” she said. “We’re all having so much fun. It’s so great to have that… you always want to have a good time.

“It’s just a lot of love, a lot of fun, a lot of laughter. It’s an amazing experience.”

She continued: ‘Jamie and I have stayed in touch all these years. They always say that when you have a best friend, or someone you’re really close to, and you don’t see them for years and years, but when you see them again, it’s like you were never apart.

“I just think it’s great that women support each other.”

The stars reprise their iconic mother-daughter roles from the 2003 film, 21 years after the original film became a classic.

Their first photos on the Walt Disney Studios set even subtly nod to the comedy’s premise: a body swap between mother and daughter.

Jamie sticks her tongue out as she throws the rock ‘n’ roll sign up in the air, while Lindsay sits up straight and smiles sweetly at the camera.

The studio caption for the photo: ‘The Colemans are back and coming to theaters in 2025! The Freaky Friday sequel is in production now!’

Fans took to the comments en masse to express their excitement. One X user wrote: ‘This is the most iconic reunion in history.’

Another joined in the conversation: “I need Chad Michael Murray.”

In Freaky Friday, a remake of the 1976 film starring Jodie Foster, the duo play the straight-laced psychiatrist mother Tess and her daughter Anna, who eventually swap bodies

While Disney has yet to share any details about the sequel’s plot, Lindsay took to Instagram to reveal a Look behind the scenes during filming.

In a video, a photographer’s camera was seen panning to the Parent Trap star and the Halloween actress as they posed for photos back-to-back, poking their heads out of their trailers and sharing a sweet moment while sitting on the trailer steps.

She wrote with the clip: ‘We are back!’

Japie reposted the photo of herself and her daughter on screen on her Instagram, with the caption: ‘WE ARE FREAKING OUT because the Colemans are getting FREAKY AGAIN!’

To make sure fans didn’t miss the news, she also shared it on her Instagram storywriting: ‘It’s starting! Let’s go!’

In March, Lindsay told People that the sequel to Freaky Friday was “in the works” and that she was “excited to work with Jamie again and see how far we can go.”

“We actually talk almost every day, so I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with this,” she said.

Mark Harmon also played the role of Tess’ fiancé and Chad Michael Murray played Anna’s boyfriend Jake.

Lindsay gushed: ‘It’s fantastic. We’re all having so much fun. It’s so great to have that… you always want to have a good time’

And in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary, the cast members spoke with The New York Times about their ‘easy’ friendship.

“We met in the office, did the read-through, and it was a huge success. I had to let go of all the control mechanisms and just let it go,” Jamie recalls. “Lindsay was as flexible as I was. If you look at The Parent Trap , she has a talent as an actor that is really impressive. It was a big job. It was a big production. And our relationship was very easy.”

She added that fans were wondering when they could expect a second film.

“When I was traveling around the world for Halloween, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday,” Jamie told the outlet. “Something really struck a chord. When I got back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘I feel like there needs to be a movie made.'”
