Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis discuss reuniting with Freaky Friday co-stars on the sequel Freakier Friday and reveal the film has more ‘swapping’ than the original

More than two decades after Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis starred in the Disney remake Freaky Friday, they’re discussing returning for the sequel.

Their 2003 film was a remake of the original 1976 film adaptation of Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name, starring Barbara Harris and a young Jodie Foster.

The story, which centers on a mother and daughter who switch bodies after reading a mystical Chinese fortune cookie, continues with Freakier Friday, which sees Lohan and Curtis reprise their roles as Anna and Tess, respectively.

Both Lohan, 38, and Curtis, 65, were sitting with IMDb file to discuss the sequel, which is currently in production and Lohan was spotted on set in LA on Wednesday.

They both talked about reuniting with nearly all of their co-stars from the 2003 film, but they also hinted that they wouldn’t be the only ones swapping bodies.

Fans had been talking about the possibility of a sequel for years, with both Lohan and Curtis openly lobbying for a sequel. Disney finally announced the sequel this past May.

When asked what it was like when she asked Disney to make a sequel, Curtis said she practically pushed for them to make it.

“I don’t think I said we want that, I think I said you should do a sequel, I don’t think I asked,” she joked.

“The truth is, I’m pretty old and I’ve been working a lot. And wherever I go, the movie people want to know about is Freaky Friday,” Curtis said.

“Of all the other work I’ve done, Freaky Friday was the project they wanted to make. When I got back from my world tour, I called Disney and said, ‘We have to make Freaky Friday,’ and that’s what happened.”

Production started in late June and Disney set a release date of 2025. Lohan was very excited about the production: “It feels like a rhythm that never stops.”

She even confirmed that Tess’ band from the 2003 film – Pink Slip – will be making a return, saying: “Pink Slip are coming back in full force with a lot of love in their hearts. And it’s so much fun. And it feels like the band never left each other.”

Lohan hinted that there’s a “new song in it that’s really beautiful.”
